I have done some research and it seems the resort is 'nicer' but the location of the Grand Villas seems more ideal, Can you really walk to DD? Which would you choose? Suggestions please.......thank you....:smickey: :mickeyjum

We stayed at Cypress Pointe a few years ago and are going back & staying at the Grande Villa section this time.
We loved our room (3 bedroom unit) at CP, but I liked the pool area at the CPGV better, which is why we picked it this time. CP and CPGV are right next to one another, I wouldn't consider one to be closer to DD than the other.
Although you are relatively close to DD it seems to me it would be a little too far to walk.

I've believe that the resort phase has been recently renovated and therefore has received it's gold crown status back through RCI. I was told that the Grand Villas are undergoing the same renovation so it will probably earn gold crown status as well when finished. As far as walking to DD, I wouldn't. It would be a long walk IMHO.

Have a great trip!!!

I just called GrandVillas and they told me they did a major renovation last year with new carpets, bedding , furniture etc. Is this true. We booked phase 1 because of the renovations. My son has severe asthma and I want to be in the units most recently removated.

Should I switch from phase 1 to 2.

Meta, Did you notice if there are different phone numbers for the Resort and the Grandvillas? The reason I ask is because sometimes when resorts have different phases they share a customer service/reservation phone number and sometimes they will give you incorrect information. DW has a friend who is an owner at the Grandvillas phase and she told her that the Resort side was renovated last year and Grandvillas is currently undergoing renovations.

I could be completely wrong about this but If I where you, I would call back and ask which phase was renovated. I can't see the Grandvillas being recently renovated and still rated a silver crown through RCI.

Please elaborate on phase one or two? :confused3 My two kids also have asthma so I was very interseted in what you were saying about the phases? I just put in a request at the Grand Villas. in your opinion what is best? It will be our first time staying at this resort and did so reading the positive feedback I got from this site. Thanks for any info!:goodvibes

Cypress Pointe Resort did a complete renovation of the entire unit just a couple years ago. The Grand Villas has only performed some touch up renovation.

There is an excellent comparison through www.cypresspointe.net

I wouldn't call what they completed a "major" renovation. It was new mattresses, a new sofa and carpeting along with some new soft goods like bedspreads. It was needed and it helped maintain the units but was not anything like the complete unit renovation CPR went through in 2004-2005. Most of the items in the units are still the same things they had in 2003 or even since they were built. CPGV is a nice resort and well deserving of its Silver Crown ranking but it isn't up to the higher Gold Crown level which really represents the best of the best. It isn't easy for any resort to get Gold Crown and is harder to get it back once it is lost. Especially as resorts age it takes major work to keep them at any ranking level and extraordinary effort to get Gold Crown. There are some really great resorts that don't get either "crown" award yet are still great places to stay. Both Cypress Pointe resorts have earned their rankings and that says a lot about what you'll find at either one you choose. But if you want the top ranking it's Cypress Pointe Resort - Phase 1.

I think this explains it the best. Thank you for clearing up the renovation issues.

We are trying to exchange into either phase for a July stay to add onto our DVC stay but it's not looking good right now.

Personally, I think they have one of the best locations of any timeshare in Orlando.

Thank you for your responses. I will stick with my reservation at phase 1.
