Cypress Pointe - do you do DDP?

We are considering Cypress Pointe for our next trip to WDW and I have a zillion questions running through my mind. I hope someone out there can help:

1. Do you do the DDP since you aren't on property (and therefore don't have access to the food courts, etc.)? If so, how have you worked that? I can see the TS credits not being an issue, but I wonder if I'll end up wasting Snack and QS (not that I plan to cook on my vacation because I don't :)

2. That said, are there grocery stores near by? How close?

3. Are there non-Disney resturants really close by? If so, can you tell me what some of them are?

4. Are the pools open year round (we are going in February 2009)?

5. I understand that CP is very closed to WDW. True? So it's easy to get to all the parks, Downtown Disney, resort dining reservations, etc.?

I just would love to know everything and hear it from someone who's actually stayed there and not from reading their website.

THANKS!!!

I can answer your first question, if that helps. I believe the DDP is only available to those staying on-site. You won't be able to purchase it if you are staying at an off-site hotel. Sorry I've never stayed at CP and don't know the answers to your other questions. But it sounds like a nice place. Have a good trip!:)

You can only get the DDP as part of a package deal while staying on Disney property.

There is a Winn-Dixie grocery store literally a 2-minute drive away. Goodings (expensive) is located in Crossroads by the DTD entrance. CP has a small variety store on property.

3. Are there non-Disney resturants really close by? If so, can you tell me what some of them are?

Tonnes... Right near by is a Steak N Shake, CiCis pizza, Giordano's ... at the Crossroads, there is a Chevy's, TGIF, Burger King, and many others.

4. Are the pools open year round (we are going in February 2009)?

I went in Sept so I can't help you on that one. I'm sure the pools are open ... the question is whether they are heated ;)

I found it quite easy, either drive through the DTD entrance, or hop on the hwy and get off at the Epcot or AK entrance. The only one that is far to get to is MK and there used to be a back way, but the last time we stayed was 2005 and I'm sure it's been closed or developed since then. Someone who's stayed recently can help.

The front desk can give you all the info you need for stores and directions. You'll see plenty of restaurants on the drive there. Or mapquest will show you all the closeby restaurants and stores.

Directly behind the resort is a full service Winn Dixie. A 5 minute walk.

3. Are there non-Disney resturants really close by? If so, can you tell me what some of them are?

So many you can't name them all. You can easily walk to at least 2 dozen - 3 or 4 minutes drive and you're at 50 or more.

4. Are the pools open year round (we are going in February 2009)?

Open & heated year round.

1 Mile from Downtown Disney. All sidewalks/crosswalks throughout the area. Very very short drive.

Thanks for all the great info. Subconciously, I think I knew the DDP was only for on-site folks....grrr. But, we may still give it a try. Anyone ever used the shuttle service from Orlando airport to Cypress Pointe? We are driving but my parents will fly in and it would be great if they could use the shuttle instead of us having to coordinate our driving with their airplane arrival?

Use the MEARS shuttle. It's $14 one way (at least it was) and they offer service to CPR. They run all day long.

Thanks Tototoo...you are full of great info. Do I need to make a reservation for that or can they just go to the Mears "counter" at the airport.

Unless it late at night (after 11) or really early (before 6 AM) the counter seems to work. To be extra safe book it on their web site.

A friend of mine just got back from Orlando, she stayed at Cypress Pointe Feb 20th to Feb 25th and absolutely LOVED it! Said she will never stay The Wyndham ever again (where they usually stay in Orlando) She said the rooms were HUGE and very, very nice and they loved the pool. So the pool was open when they were there and I went the first week of Feburary, but stayed at Marriott Grand Vistas and their pools were open. It probably depends on the weather alot. She also said Cypress Point was close to everything, but I don't know specifics, mile wise or minute wise.
