Cynthia McKinney?

She hasn't worn her pin in 10 years.
The rules that apply to you and me just don't apply to her.

Did you really say that? What did she say?

She just shrugged and told me we have "different backgrounds". I've known her for awhile and have immense respect for her as a surgeon, I was so sad to see this side of her though. I'll never look at her the same.

Sounds like she believes that whites deserve any backlash as repayment for all the years of slavery and discrimination.

The problem with that is--it is reverse discrimination to justify any such ill will towards whites by blacks as deserved.

I wasn't a slave owner---neither has my family for generations (our roots are European and on hubbies side China). *I* didn't do anything wrong.

It is very twisted for her to believe that it is okay one way but not the other.

The larger issue is WHY reps are permitted to bypass security. Anyone of them is just as likely to go postal.

they didn't think anyone would use an airplane as a missile and they were wrong.

What's to stop a politican from taking the sinister road and maybe just maybe creating havoc at the Capitol. It is not an unlikely prospect and more important than her perception of racial profiling.

Do they get a free pass when the boss is coming over for the State of the Union as well?

There are some politicians you can count on for nutty behavior and Cynthia McKinney has always been one of them. Even so, I'm surprised she slugged a cop! If this turns out to be true, then she definitely should be charged with assault on a police officer.

I have no problem with members of Congress being given a pass through security into the Capital and legislative office buildings as long as they have their ID (a card, a lapel pin, or whatever) visible. It's like that new program through the TSA to preapprove frequent travellers through security. If they don't have their credentials, then they shouldn't be surprised if they are asked to stop.

WASHINGTON Apr 4, 2006 (AP)— House Republicans, reacting to the confrontation last week between Rep. Cynthia McKinney and a Capitol Police officer she is accused of hitting, pressed for a resolution Tuesday to commend the police force for its professionalism.

Democratic leaders did not defend McKinney or her charge of racial profiling.

"I don't think any of it justifies hitting a police officer," said House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California. "If it did happen I don't think it was justified."

Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, said all lawmakers, staffers and visitors in the building have a responsibility to obey Capitol Police. "I think we all should cooperate fully," he said.

Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, had no comment, a spokesman said.

As a federal prosecutor considered whether to press assault or other charges against McKinney, Republicans were introducing their resolution.

"I don't think it's fair to attack the Capitol Police and I think it's time that we show our support for them," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., a sponsor of the measure. Ignoring a police officer's order to stop, or hitting one, "is never OK," McHenry said.

McKinney is alleged to have hit a uniformed police officer who did not recognize her and asked her to stop on her way into a House office building.

McKinney says she took action in self defense after the officer inappropriately touched her. A spokesman for the congresswoman did not respond Tuesday to a request for comment.

The six-term Georgia Democrat says the issue is not about whether to obey a police officer's order, whether she hit him or the fact that she was not wearing the lapel pin that identifies members of Congress.

She and her lawyers have said that a series of confrontations between McKinney and U.S. Capitol and White House law enforcement officers who don't recognize her points to a pattern.

"The issue is racial profiling," McKinney, who is black, told CNN Monday.

Yep. :thumbsup2 Great post. Now here's my 2 cents. She is a nut.! I saw her interview this am and she wouldn't answer a single question but went on a rant about racial profiling. She appears nutty to me and am grateful she isn't one of our representatives.

Pitiful.

IMHO, it's some of the black population (McKinney, Sharpton, Jackson etc) that keeps the racial tension alive and plays it for all it's worth when it suits them.

That is actually just a fast pass--it is a pre-screening process..but they don't bypass the metal detectors--they just either have a special line or front of the line privileges.

members of Congress and the House of Rep shouldn't get a bypass to avoid the metal detector. That is what I am understanding takes place and should have no place in post 9/11 DC.

Now watching the interview w/Soledad O'Brian (also on cnn.com)--

OMG! This McKinney is a smug and snotty woman.

"members of Congress and the House of Rep shouldn't get a bypass to avoid the metal detector. That is what I am understanding takes place and should have no place in post 9/11 DC."

I completely agree with this.

That's wonderful if *she* wants to play the race card. What really gets my goat is the other black representatives/personalities standing by her "just because" she is also black. Ridiculous and shameful. :sad2:

"McKinney, 51, was joined by actor Danny Glover, left, and singer Harry Belafonte at the press conference. "We're here to support our sister," Glover said." (From AOL News)

I have just lost all respect for Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte. :sad2: No one from Congress, black or white, is there to support her....so these 2 show up? I'm surprised Rev.Jesse Jackson isn't there!

If you watch the interview with Soledad, you realize that she (Soledad) isn't going to be as nice as Wolf. Infact, she sort of "gives it" to Mckinney at the end :thumbsup2

I watched the interview with Soledad on cnn.com. She kept asking what happened that day, and Mckinney kept talking about everything else but, even bringing up the war in Iraq! Mckinney just smiled and talked nonsense.

I would have gained a lot of respect for her if she had said straight out "I cannot talk about the facts of the case as they are under investigation." But it was weird how she would just avoid the question by talking about something else.

Sounds like a child---

"So why did you hit your sister"

"But mom---did you see what she did. And my friend Maggie--she wasn't nice to me either. And hey mom--can i have a drink of water? Can I watch a movie? Did you know that blue and yellow make green?"

"Yes, but why did you hit your sister?"

"But mom--Dragon Tales is on and I'm missing it and my sister has a juice pop and why don't I?"

"Why did you hit your sister?"

(chicken little response) "What are we talkin' about?"

this is too funny.

McKinney and her attorneys insist that Capitol Police officers should be trained to recognize all 535 members of Congress on sight.

Yeah, right.

What a kook.

Public figures like McKinney, Sharpton, Jackson, etc who are so willing to play the race card are just perpetuating racial tension in this country. If they were on message boards, they'd be called trolls. :stir:

I've lived in Georgia all my life and have never known a single person who takes her seriously, though she must have some support out there if she's in office. What an idiot.

I heard on the radio this morning that they are convening a grand jury to decide whether to indict her with a felony, a misdemeanor, or nothing at all. She is such a disgrace. And I agree with the poster who thinks it’s ridiculous that Glover and Belafonte are there to support her.
