I have never taken any meds for motion sickness, but know I will need them (and DH too) for this trip. Anyone got any experiences with this med for motion sickness?
Thanks!

I haven't taken this, but do get very motion sick. Last trip I had the scopalpamine patch behind my ear and it was wonderful!!

Never heard of Cyclizine. Apparently it's in Bonine for Kids.

Are you thinking of taking something for your trip, or taking something during the day in the parks? Drowsiness can be an issue with motion sickness drugs. People in the US typically buy Dramamine, Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula, or Bonine. You might want to google these to see what the ingredients are and what the side effects are.

You need a doctor's prescription to get the patch. Side effects include dry mouth. PP loved it. I hated it.

generic meclizine is what I take. At night and it lasts 24 hours.

Meclizine 25mg. Can make you drowsy which varies between people. Take 1 hour before getting on any rides. if that doesn't help, and the drowsiness is not to bad, can move up to 50mg.

I suffer from motion sickness on spinning rides, motion simulators, and when I ride too many roller coasters back to back. I still dont do spinning rides, motion simulators are fine, and can get on 3-4 roller coasters instead of getting sick on the second. That matters a lot more at universal with the express pass than is does at Disney.

I took Bonine for a cruise - the first and last nights of our cruise were incredibly rocky, the middle days were still rocky and I did not feel sick once! (also realized that trip that I just don't like cruises!) :)

I'm bringing it this trip. Start taking it the night before you leave for vacation - one a night.

Another vote for generic meclizine here. Ask for it at a pharmacy counter, no prescription needed and it's cheap. I start taking it a day before I get to Disney and take it religiously every 24 hours until we leave. Helps immensely!! Worked like a charm on our 7-night cruise too. For me, making sure I take it consistently is the key. Taking it shortly before I "need" it, doesn't work for me.

This is what the doctor prescribed for us. We don't have Dramamine. The patches wer 25 bucks each, so went for this instead. Good to know it is in the Bonine as we had considered that. (Not available here either, so only really generics).

I know this might not be an option but I highly recommend the Reliefband. I picked it up for my trip earlier this year and worked terrific. It works for any type of motion sickness from cars, trains, planes, boats, vr gaming, amusement rides.

I've tried Bonine a few times, it's cheap, OTC, available everywhere (Walmart, for instance.) I do get a bit tired with it but then again I'm at WDW and it's hot/humid/& crowded. Who wouldn't be tired? ;) I will say I don't get sick so it's worth a shot. If it makes you sleepy there's caffeine every 38 ft at WDW.

For me, both Bonine and Dramamine (normal and the "less-drowsy" formulation) made me SO drowsy (like, fall asleep on any indoor non-ride attraction.... Impressions de France, Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, Carousel of Progress... I snoozed through them ALL), and SO grumpy (like, snap at any little thing) that I had to stop taking them. They worked, don't get me wrong. I have switched to ginger capsules (1000mg in the morning with breakfast), Sea Bands, and an essential oil blend called AromaEase behind my earlobes on the fleshy part near the jaw bone. The combination of those three things is what I have done for a few trips (plus more plane rides than I can count) and work GREAT for me! Plus, I'm ME- not grumpy, not drowsy... I'm able to fully enjoy the trip. I'm one who can't even ride in the back seat on a car ride that's longer than like a half hour.... and this combo lets me do the "big rides" without a problem. There are times where I have to reapply the oil, but at most, one extra time per day, and that's a rare occasion.

Slight tangent, but does anyone have experience with giving meclizine to kids under 12? My doctor and pharmacist both refuse to give me advice since it’s not available in Canada, but it can’t be that bad if it’s so readily available in the US, I’d think...our kiddo gets totally knocked out from Dramamine and ginger didn’t work, but he gets crazy motion sickness.

I use Meclizine also, sometimes as Bonine, sometimes generic. I take it at night right before bed and it works 24 hours. I don't know that it makes me drowsy, since I'm taking it before bed and I don't feel any more tired than usual the following day. It does work well, and since it's an anti-emetic, it also works on other types of nausea as well. Dramamine (regular formula) actually makes me feel sick to my stomach, so I steer clear of that.

I may have to look into Meclizine and taking it at night so it works through the day. Been having more issues with motion sickness and don't want to have to skip rides on our trip next year due to it.

If you have cyclizine, see above.

Bonine and Dramamine less drowsy are meclizine.

Dramamine is dimenhydrinate. So if he has had merely Dramamine he hasn't had the other options.

you can also try an epley maneuver. Google home epley or modified epley.

helps a lot of ex contact sport athletes.

I know we can’t get cyclizine either since I looked into that first...not sure why there are such strict restrictions on these!

The less drowsy Dramamine is what I want to try for him since it’s available at WDW, but since he’s only had the regular one (which as you say is a totally different substance), I’m not sure whether it would be safe.
