I survived the BF, not being able to take advantage of the many sales. Thanks to the many kind words from y'all.

Now I am facing Cyber Monday.
Is there a site listing the deals that will be available? I am interested to see what there will offered. Is free shipping something that is usual?
We are strictly on a cash only basis. No credit card at all. So Cyber Monday will be interesting. I do have a PayPal debit card however payday...and budgeting is not until Tuesday, so missing out by one day.

I'm crossing my fingers that retailers will be further marking things down as the holidays get closer. Does anyone else feel that retailers will be marking items down further or is there a better chance of items not being available? I am not looking for anything that is in high demand.

I"ll be cheering for y'all to the get the bestest deals around. I really do enjoy hearing about them....I'm just getting used to our new way of life.

Thanks again for all the support.

Yes there will still be great deals from now until Christmas. I do most of my shopping online and the closer it gets to Christmas, the better the deals. I almost NEVER pay shipping. Hang in there... there are more great deals to come.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking.

I am eager to hear the reports of how successful BF was, to see if retailers are going to offer better sales.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you....but you said you cannot shop on cyber Monday because you won't be able to shop till Tuesday. So why are you even looking to see what the "deals" are? Honestly hanging around the dis and seeing what people bought on Black Friday/cyber Monday, when you have said you can't afford very much, is almost like torturing yourself. :confused3 You phrased this post as having the "blues" and on your other post you said you felt "down" because of all the black friday ads/sales that you couldn't participate in. You shouldn't be feeling guilty because you had to adjust things due to a job loss.

Just do what you can do and what you and dh have decided your budget will allow for your kids. I saw on another thread you said you need to replace a toilet seat but cannot afford $15 to do so. So you probably have a strict budget for Christmas. You can still have a great family-centered Christmas.

I agree with this.

Also, OP, check this out:

http://www.freeshippingday.com/

Free shipping day is December 17 for many major retailers!

According to preliminary reports, BF was only "modestly" successful in the Northeast/Midwest/West. Sales were actually down in the South.

That said, we may still see a few unannounced "surprises" from retailers.

That's something I never understood about this board -- you have people who, for whatever reason being, cannot afford much of anything this holiday season, but they still come here to "torture" themselves (and remind everyone else of their situation).

Though this is "The Budget Board" - everyone here seems to share a common goal -- and that is to get back to WDW, whether it's your first time, or your 60th.

If this board is meant to be a support group, I apologize for being insensitive, but if one doesn't have the means to shop til they drop/go to WDW, why bother put yourself through all this?

Living vicariously though others, perhaps?

WOW :sad2: I read this out loud to my family including our dd 20 and 11 year old son and they said "WOW that was mean" what that person posted.

I am getting some emails from various online stores that will have sales past Cyber Monday. I am sure you will find great deals past tomorrow that will fit into your budget. GOOD LUCK!! :goodvibes

Thank you very much to those who have understood my situation and to those offering support.

To the others.....I pray that you will never find yourself in our situations. Going from a very comfortablel living to this new way of life is no picnic.

To others, I appologize for coming here, I guess living vicariously through your sales/deals, however I guess that is seen as wrong to some.

Many blessings to All.

Don't worry there will be sales through Christmas. I self imposed a budget for this past weekend. I was sooo tempted to whip out the credit card but said "no". I did not look at the Cyber deals for tomorrow but I am sure there will be plenty of good deals with free shipping in the days & weeks to come.

Hang in there ! I still need a few presents, mostly for family & I need to check out where I can find the best deals & some board games for DS. I read amazon.com & walmart will have ongoing great deals ! :thumbsup2

If this board is meant to be a support group, I apologize for being insensitive...

To the PP who said this was "mean" (Denise), please take note that I did apologize in advance -- when I was typing my post, I had another PPs mention of a $15 toilet seat on my mind.

Trust me, if things were as bad for me as they are with OP, I wouldn't be on this board, much less anywhere on the internet (as internet service would be among the first of my non-essential services to get cut).

I guess because I don't sugar-coat my words and tell people the things they want to hear makes me "say mean things"? This, unfortunately, is the reality we're in (and though a lot of people won't admit it, I am willing to bet there are many more people on this board who are in very similar circumstances, but who are too proud to admit it).

As for OP, I do feel badly for the situation you're in -- and would never wish it on anyone, but the reality of it is that it's already happening to a lot of people around the U.S...

Just a reminder, there are quite a few free ways to access the internet. OP may not being paying for the service.

Instead of judgement, I'm going to offer advice....don't worry about BF or Cyber Monday! I honestly think it is sometimes hyped up and you can actually find much better deals later. Here's what I do...

Amazon is your friend. Put in your cart some of the things you know you want to get your kids. Then, just watch your cart. Many times, I was able to get things closer to Christmas for half of what was offered originally, and with the free one month Amazon Prime offer, you can get free shipping! (Just remember to cancel it before it's up.)

Also, if you can be flexible with what you are getting everyone, check out the Amazon Outlet. I usually go there, then scroll down to the 50-70% off options on the left side. Sort it by lowest price available, then start putting stuff in your cart and let that ride too. You'd be suprised how deeply discounted some things are, and while it might not be the toy that they want, it is something to give them that I'm sure they willl enjoy, and you still got it at a great deal!

Good luck. There is still a lot of time before Christmas. This was my first year shopping the BF deals, but seeing that I have never done that in the past and still got great deals closer to Christmas, it does show that there is a way!

If you read some of the OPs comments:

It's not just about her situation it's also about making you feel guilty about your situation, as if nobody here has ever been laid off before :confused3

Bad as this economy may be now it's not exactly unique and thousands of us went through the same thing years ago (Google "Internet Bubble" or "Savings and Loan Crisis" for a little perspective) so many of the people buying new flat screens now were eating spaghetti 5 days a week and skipping Christmas at some point in their lives. You eventually adjust to your new standard of living, move on and hopefully recover at some point.

When you read posts about people who don't use credit cards, squeeze leftover soap shavings together to make new bars or have 77 different ways of using leftover Thanksgiving turkey odds are they learned those tricks the hard way. So my advice is to stop feeling bad about what other people bought when you couldn't and start figuring out what to do to make your new reality as comfortable as possible. That's the closest thing to a cyber hug you'll ever get from people like me.

I don't think anyone thinks it's "wrong"...but you are currently in a tough situation financially according to your posts, and is it really giving you any comfort to read all these threads about people getting deals on Ugg boots, laptops. iPod touches, and other pricy items? :confused3 I don't think most people would find that comforting/enjoyable, to read about other people buying things that just aren't in the budget at this time. If you enjoy it, then of course that's up to you.
However, you call this thread "cyber Monday blues" and your other thread was about how hard it was to face the holidays when you can't shop the black Friday sales. Doesn't sound too enjoyable.

You are in a tough situation and I feel for you. You posted on the other thread about other things your kids have had to miss out on, their upcoming school trips they need money for, etc. and then the thread about needing to replace a toilet seat but $15 is too much to spend on it.

There are great posts on the dis about Christmas traditions, Christmas recipes, fun Christmas things to do as a family, but they aren't on the Black Friday deal threads/Cyber Monday deal threads.

You have gotten some good suggestions and I hope you have a blessed Christmas with your family.
