I just came back from RITEAID and signed up for my UP card. I talked to the cashier who was very nice. I am still a little confused but ready to give it a try. The store is directly across from my CVS

Ok I NEED HELP PLEASE Ups question
Ok, I got my card today. I did my first transaction and made a mistake I am trying to learn so I am hoping someone that understands Riteaid can figure out what I did ...

Transaction:
Hershey Halloween Mix 8.99
Hershey Halloween Mix 8.99
hershey mix 6.99_ was on sale for 4.99 (1 mistake)Total was 22.97 ( I thought it was going to be 24.97)
I used a 5/25
3 4off Hershey
My total was 6.00 (give or take a few pennies)

Now, I am glad I only paid $6.00 however I was trying to do my first deal.
Spend $25.00 in candy get 10.00 in Up rewards.
They didnt print. so I asked the manager to explain what I did wrong this is what he said:
"My total was not 25.00" (ok, I know that now)
"You have to do the $25.00 in one tranaction. "I was not able to go back and add another item for a few dollars to get my total over 25.00
I wanted to return everything and rebuy it so my total would be the $25.00.
He said " You can return the items but I can't give you back the coupons because they already scanned"
Then here is the kicker: He told me "Your total has to be $25.00" You have to spend $25.00. I asked him does that mean if I use coupons then it still has to total $25.00? He said YES
So, this is what I have learned"
You can't keep a running total of your puchased items like CVS.
Check the prices before I go to the register (werent marked on sale)
I have to actually spend $25.00 to get the Ups

Correct, at RA you must do the transaction at 1 time. You must buy $25 worth of candy in 1 transaction. The worker was wrong in saying that the total must be $25 after coupons. That is not true. If you buy $25 worth of candy and get $5 off with coupons, bringing your new total to $20, you will still get the $10 UPs.

I agree with the PP. If you had returned your items right then, you should have been able to receive your coupons back. I've made plenty of mistakes before, and my coupons have been returned.

And the guy was wrong. It has to be $25 before coupons to get the UP reward. I frequently combine sales, UP rewards, and coupons at my Rite Aid.

It is a learning experience! I'm still learning myself....but we don't have a CVS nearby, so the UP reward system is better than the nothing Rite Aid had before!

I think both of you are correct about the total before/after coupons. I have another Riteaid on the other side of town I am going to try the same type of transaction tomorrow. I still need more candy and I have a few more coupons I am willing to try agian. Ill let you know.

Good luck! I've done that too. If I have a bad experience with one store, I go to another. They also differ in what merchandise they carry. Weird.

RAI gave it another try. I spent 26.00 in candy used a 5.00/25.00 and 3 4.00 off coupons. Spent 9.00 got 10.00 in UPs! So I guess I am off the learn now. It took me 2 times to do it since I made a mistake but live and learn.
I need shampoo so bad. I hope between CVS and RA I can renew my stockpile. ps.this deal is not for the week posted above. I was just chatting on this thread.

Your total does NOT have to be $25 AFTER coupons, it is before. Clerks often say that to customers and I don't know if it is becasue they are misinformed or because they are trying to persuade you into buying more, but to qualify for the deals at RA it is the total before coupons. Now once you've racked up points on your wellness card to start receiving a 10% or 20% discount on your purchases, that will mess up your totals for +up rewards. I am at the 20% level and am always miscalculating how much I need to buy to hit a certain mark. It's great to get that extra discount, but makes it harder to plan your transactions.

Finesse shampoo is BOGO this week. I have a $1 coupon somehow. Not sure where it came from...maybe Sunday's paper last week? Maybe this will help you...
