Okay! I drove by my local CVS on the way home today to pick-up an ad !

Do I have this right?? I go back to cvs and buy (using the new card I still have to get!):

4.99 - s.f. pads
9.99 - hair color
1.99 - toothbrushes
5.00 - tylenol

21.97 - out of pocket - I have no coupons...

Then on Friday (or so), I go back to CVS for a new receipt that shows I will have $21.97 to spend at the store? :confused3

Although maybe I will skip the hair color...I'm not going to use it so that's not a deal, right??!!

Thanks!!
Lisa

At the bottom of your receipt when you go back to the store will print out little "coupons" that say Extra Care Bucks and the amount. Each of the deals you did will print out separately. So you will have a coupon for $4.99, a coupon for $9.99, a coupon for $1.99, and a coupon for $5.

My personal CVS store will only allow me to use one Extra care buck coupon per order. So sometimes I have to go through the checkout a couple times to use up all my ECB. Others report that their store lets them add them all up and use in one order.

But, you have to spend OVER the amount or the coupon will beep. They can override it, but it will only be worth however much you spent in that case. For example, if I bought a pack of gum for .99 and I give them a $5 Extra care buck (which I would NEVER do!!!), they would manually set the ECB to .99 and I would lose out on the other $4.

OK, I'm slow and this is new to me.:goodvibes

I've always wondered why CVS didn't do free rebates in competition with Walgreens, but I've never shopped there to really check into it.

Can you explain the ECBs to me and how exactly they work? Are they basically coupons for free items? Are they specific items?

Thanks.

it is more like Walgreens. You get a 'reward' coupon with your rebate amount. Only you wait 48hrs instead of weeks like Walgreens.

You cannot use ECBs on alchol, cigs, gift cards, specialty shoes(yeah some CVS sell nurses shoes) and a few others things. They expire 30days after printing or earning (can't remember which). Yes it is for specific items, they'll be listed in your ad.

Just to clarify, you can only EARN ECB's on certain items that will be listed in the ad, but you can redeem them on almost anything (see exclusions above). I'm pretty sure it excludes stamps and prescriptions, too.

You can use ECB's to purchase products which have their own offer to earn ECB's, and you can get more ECB's. It's kind of like using Walgreen's gift cards to purchase the next month's free after rebate items. However, more often then not I'll use the ECB's for things I can't get free/cheap any other way (like contact solution).

I went yesterday to pick up a prescription and it printed out $4 off $20 and a couple of other coupons. I was able to use the $4 off on alcohol but it excluded prescriptions.

I'm guessing this isn't the same as ECB?

the $4 off of $20 is not the Extra Bucks. Just a lucky extra coupons.

FYI, you can use BOTH a manufacturer's coupon and a CVS coupon for EACH item! When you combine manurfacturer's coupons, a $4 off $20 coupon and Extra Care Bucks, you can do REALLY well!!

Don't skip the hair color. There is a printable 2.00 coupon off, which means your ECBs will be more than your oop$. I forget the brand, but do a search.

Check your Rite Aid online rebates, too! I bought 12.97 worth of stuff this week, paid $9.97 after my 3 $1.00-off coupons, and got $12.97 back in rebates! I'll try ANY shampoo and toothpaste when they pay me 3 bucks to try it!
