Try and keep it to 2 pages or less, which shouldn't be too much of an issue if he's not got a great deal of work experience.

I've had to do mine recently as I'm looking for a job and goes along these lines:

Name, address and 'phone number;
Personal statement - 3 or 4 lines with your key skills and attributes;
Key Skills - a couple of lines on each one. Aim for 6 or so skills;
Personal Strengths and Attributes - just one word on these, list of around 8 or so;
Career History - most recent first, break down each into Responsibilities and Key Achievements - make sure that these link back to the Key skills and Strengths/Attributes;
Training and Qualifications;
Interests;
Personal - married status, DOB, mobility and health.

Happy to email you a copy if you want a look, and promise not to laugh:lmao:

i have also had to do this recently. just a thought but have a look at the jobcentre plus website. they have a cv builder and pointed out some attributes i didnt even know i had. was incredible what i could get away with writing as a full time mum of 9 years:lmao: might be a worth a look anyway.

Thanks everyone
most start on it later
