I read somewhere (was it here?) that people make their own chipboard by running cereal boxes through their Cricuts. Have any of you done this? If so, what were your settings? I'd like to give this a try, but I'm such a Cricut newbie that I don't want to do something disastrous, like break the machine.

TIA.

I've done with my sizzix, but not my Cricut.

I would like to know also.

Been there, done it! I have actually cut chipboard a tiny bit thicker than cereal box! The trick is to make 2 or three passes with the blade.
Put your blade depth to it's highest. Put your pressure at it's highest.
After you make your initial cut do NOT unload the paper (cardboard). Press the Load last button. It should take the blade housing to the exact same spot it started. Repeat the same cut again.
I was REALLY please when I cut DCWV GLITTER paper on it. This paper is thicker than Bazzill. It is thick. It is also extremely textured with glitter.
I only had to cut once with my settings on high. It is SO cool! It will dull my blade quicker but it is worth it.

Great to know! I have just bought the glitter paper..and I kept thinking.. oh gee, I'll have to break out the sizzix.. which isn't an issue..but the fonts I love the best are on my cricut! Thanks for the info!!! :)

I know this is a bit off the topic but it's so awesome i had to share.

either here or on the cricut board, i saw an easier way to do glitter paper. Use regular paper or cardstock to do your diecut, then run it upside down through your xyron machine. you can then glitter your diecut with whatever color glitter you want! :D

I did this today and it worked out fabulously...and it saves your blades!!!

it's a plain card, I know, but it's an example, nonetheless.

Thanks for the information!

Great card, GB. Someday I'll get a Xyron:).

Thanks GB.. I'm noting that right now!!! I hadn't thought of that.. and I have enough glitter that I won't have to worry about wasting it!!

Thanks! :D I got the 900 with a 40% off coupon at Michael's years ago and I've never regretted it. My next test is to laminate/magnet something and see if I can cut out paper doll parts. I don't know how the Expression will handle the extra thickness. I could always multicut it. :D I'm still on my original cartridges that I bought (I have one of each). Granted, I haven't used it a ton in the last couple years but still.

You're welcome-I thought it was a great idea myself and I certanily can't take credit for it. I had a couple glitter colors ... but after I heard about this i ran out and bought that crazy martha stewart glitter at Michael's. It was actually cheaper (per volume) than the other stuff they had... and later I went to my LSS (not so local but closest) and got a 6 color set from Making Memories or something like that.

Wow. I'm a hijacker. :sad2: Bad shorts, bad!

I bought some chipboard when I bought the 6 glitter set. I'm afraid to cut it... but I should just bite the bullet and go for it. Now i just have to decide what to cut! (then I can Xyron it and glitter it and make more pretties haha!)
