Cutting cable just using digital tv and online

Where do you get internet? What service do you use? How expensive is it?

We have basic cable with 2nd tier internet for just under $70 a month from comcast.

I am busy revamping my services and just rearranged phone service so I'm on a roll.

For many years we had no cable and had internet by phone. Then we got cable with net, and kept 2 phone lines plus 3 cells so the cost was outrageous to say the least.

Now, we still have one landline and 3 cells, plus basic cable and net.

I pay $49/month for high speed internet through CableOne. The Roku box was a Christmas gift (I believe they are approx. $80 - TOTALLY worth it IMHO) and I pay $15/month for 2 dvds and unlimited streaming from Netflix.

I could easily drop down to just unlimited streaming from Netflix for $8/month, but I'd miss getting the new releases that aren't streaming yet. I don't know what I'd do without Roku...I'd be lost!

Most websites have full episodes now. You can find them easier by google "show name + full episodes"

I have looked at Hulu, but how do I watch stream internet streams through the tv. I stream Netflix, but wasn't sure about other shows.

I cut the big cable bill down to basic. The only reason I kept basic was because it is actually less than internet alone for Comcast.

I also have Netflix 1dvd at a time/unlimited streaming and HuluPlus. With HuluPlus you can watch a show a day or two after it airs.

So my total internet, tv and movie per month is $75. I could probably go down to $57 with a slower internet but I need it fast for work.

I have a Roku box that we stream the Netflix & HuluPlus to our old-school crt tv . It is 32" from the late 80s or early 90s. It was free to me some years ago, and I just can't get a new one when this is still working well.

DD streams hers through a PS3 in her room, also on a crt tv.

Is anyone able to stream videos thru either any service using satellite internet service? We can't get DSL or cable out here. An antenae on the roof won't work either, we're surrounded by trees and hills.

We got rid of cable 2 years ago and never looked back. It took a lot of convincing on my part to get DH on board but now he won't go back to cable either. We have $10/mo netflix (1 movie out at a time + streaming), rent movies from redbox (lots of free codes out there), watch local channels on TV, and any other shows either on Hulu.com or the stations website. We can have a cable the connects from our laptop to our TV so we can actually watch it on our TV if we want to. It saves us $60/mo which to us was an additional $720/yr to go towards Disney trips without any extra effort on our part. We noticed that we really watch a LOT less TV overall now too. We just keep busy doing other things instead. We used to park ourselves in front of the TV on the weekends and now we only watch a couple movies at night. Like today (Saturday), we haven't even turned our TV on at all and it's almost 8pm.

I can not fathom paying that much for TV. I don't have television service of any kind. The few shows I like to watch I watch online when the networks put them up a day or so after they air.

Same here. We have a converter box & antenna and watch shows that way. If we can't watch something when it airs, we just watch it online later. I prefer Hulu to the network's sites, I think it works better. Once in a blue moon I'll see an ad for a cable show & think, oh I'd like to see that, but not enough to pay for cable.

P.S. - We still have our internet through the cable company, it's $50/month. I've looked around for cheaper but can't find anything that would give us unlimited use for any less than that.

Yep. We cancelled cable and just use Neflix. We still have it until the end of the month, but I'm going to miss TLC and Discovery. Can't be helped, though.

I haven't had cable in 15 years. We had it for a couple of years when we lived in a place that got absolutely no TV reception without it. Don't miss it a bit.

We don't watch much TV and consider it a waste of time. We do have Netflix and between that and broadcast TV we're fine.

We cut cable 5 years ago. We get high speed internet access and watch shows online. Hulu, Youtube, various other places.

We also borrow DVDs (among other things) free of charge from our local public library.

I like watching commercial free TV shows and movies. I found that we also now shop alot less as a result! And it makes it alot easier to monitor what your family watches.

I cut Frontier FIOS TV and kept the internet service. I have not really missed it at all except the flipping channels while bored.
I have netflix I stream to the TV and I use Hulu and many of the TV Channel sites to watch shows. I get all my locals including the CW with my antenna, so I am very happy I eliminated the extra $80 a month. At $200 I would be turning it off as fast as I could.

Please note though, I am not a huge TV watcher anyways. I watch a few shows, maybe a total of 10 hours a week.

We currently pay Time Warner $140 for basic cable, roadrunner internet, and phone. This is only after it was getting close to $200 and I called them to cancel. The guy had me on the phone for almost an hour and got me on their new special offer which was all three services for $140/mo. for 12 mos.

I'd love to get rid of Time Warner. We can't part with landline and fast internet. My son still likes to watch Nickelodeon. I need to do some more research .
