Here is one that I have never heard anyone but a southerner use - getting your picture made as in...

"Honey, you go on up there and get your picture made with Mickey."

LOL we say that all the time. I hadn't really thought of it being out of the ordinary lol but I guess.

Southernness

Only true Southerners say "sweet tea" and "sweet milk." Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it -- we do not like our tea unsweetened. "Sweet milk" means you don't want buttermilk.

TRUE South'ners don't say "sweet tea" because TRUE South'n tea comes sweet.

I can relate. I married myself a nice yankee boy too and his family just cracks up at me talking and his grandpa always tells me to speak english lol. Do they sell okra in Wisconsin? I can never find any in the grocery store in Michigan when we go up there in the summer.

I can find okra but only in the frozen food section of one store - Pick N save - do you have those in Michigan? I've gotten DH hooked on some southern food - I think his favorite is rice and tomatoes. It's so funny how much food is "southern" and growing up there you never knew it. DH however is COMPLETELY grossed out by boiled peanuts. The food I miss more than anything Just means more for me

It does irk me when a co-worker from New York makes fun of southern accents. Does that bother anyone else??
