Cut the grumpy CM's some slack

First off you can't do anything about the $7.46 an hour.Do you know how hard jobs are to find in Florida? Extremely hard because all we have are immigrants taking up American jobs.Secondly all Disney employees give the required customer service for our wages. It's people like you that expect too much when you come and complain to the employees about every little thing that makes them cranky.

Also as a PP said Disney employees aren't given any time off for emergencies or deaths in the family. They also get barely 2 days off a week.Disney shifts range from 8-14 hours a day.Why don't you try being happy all the time working double shifts 2 days in a row or working on every holiday and not getting to spend time with your family.

Yes you can do something about it. Go get another job if the one you have makes you miserable and you can't give guests what they've paid thousands of dollars for.

And don't tell me there are no other jobs, all the immigrants have taken them, etc. etc. Anyone with enough ambition, motivation and drive can turn their personal situation around. Don't sit there and complain - get off your butt and do something different if what you're doing now doesn't work for you.

I make 7.25 a hour. And you know what I am happy about it. Because I change peoples lives every day. People come to our park and expect a great experience and I am there to give it to them. People do have bad days. Lord knows I've had more than my share ,but we are getting paid to make magic at one of the happiest places on earth. Peco from what I remember you are a CP. And if you keep this up your going to make all of us CP's look bad.Disney does a AWESOME job at taking care of us. The fact that they give us the extra perks and discounts is amazing.

I understand that. In fact, often when people post complaints about CMs, I tend to feel for the CM. Sometimes you can tell by the post that it's not the CM that is the problem but the guest! (Not saying the OP is one of those people, but I've read some stories where people had ridiculous demands and complaints and then blamed it on the CM. Unreal.)

But, I have to say, I really enjoy when cast members come on here and share their love of WDW or give tips, etc. I must admit, I don't like hearing about how much it sucks to work for WDW on the disboards Parks and Attractions strategies page! :) It is not my business to say who can and cannot post here, so don't get me wrong, I'm just saying, maybe it is just me, but hearing complaints about working at WDW is kind of like having someone point to the man behind the curtain, kwim?

Am I alone here in feeling that? I think I'm one of those WDW fans who wants to remain naive and believe the magic is all real and run by Mickey Mouse. Hearing about WDW as an employer turns it from magical wonderland to The Man.

But post away, of course. I'm just an idealist, I think!

Meg
Meg you shouldn't have to come on the boards and hear stuff like this. Us Cast Members have a certain forum that we can go to to chat about things that are going on around the parks. I apologize about what is being posted and hope that it doesnt ruin the magic for you and your family.

We just returned from a week at Disney, and I didn't see any rude CMs, just really tired ones! I imagine the people trying to get walk-ins at Le Cellier and the other TS restaurants who kept badgering the CMs about "really, no availability, AT ALL?" would perceive them as being rather rude. But, sheesh, what do you expect, showing up at the busiest time of the year without reservations -- another floor to be added? :confused3

I will again politely disagree. I am a hospice nurse and a huge portion of our job is what I consider customer service. Putting on that smiling face is EXPECTED. I could do my job without the extras but I would not be thought of as well as I am. LPNs in the hospitals in Oklahoma start out around 11 to 12 an hour unless they are in the float pool. People at Frontier City, an amusement park, make anywhere from 9 to 11 dollars depending on what they do. My point it's not about how much one makes, it's about doing your job correctly. If I am not mistaken part of the CM's job is to keep the smiling face and make sure the guests are having a good time. No one gets a pass from me because they don't make what everyone else does.
I am not quiet sure on what we disagree on:confused3 I believe we just call things differently, you believe part of your job is customer service, sort of, I believe it is patient care, no matter what you do, but we both do same thing anyway. You having a smile in your job is part of making patient feel better, I do not think this is something extra in this particular situation. You do not go above and beyond, after all you follow doctors orders, so am I. CMs in Disney do their job as well. Be polite is part of customer service concept in general but many people expect them to make experience "magical" which often means go above and beyond and it is not always possible for many reasons, one of them is extended responsibilities and hours for the same pay. Disney cut a lot of people leaving those who still work with more difficult working conditions. It is not about how much they are paid even so it is shame what they earn, it is about they working days became harder. Disney does know they have nowhere to go because of all the unemployment and Disney does press those people. That is why Disney close their eyes on the fact that CMs are not that "magical", they are tired of above and beyond and do only basics. I never said rudeness is justified however. There are still lots of "magical" CMs however, not everyone work extended shifts, some there only for a short time, some just got great stamina, so everyone is different. I also do not get the "I paid lots of money, blow magic on me" attitude. You paid money to get to parks, you got polite service, do not scream CMs are rude if someone did not kiss you much. JMHO.

Wow, Pecobill. Perhaps it might do you well to reconsider the Basics. Is my job magical every minute? Nope. Do I get yelled at, ignored, tired of saying the same thing a million times a day? Yup! Do I sometimes feel like a pawn in Disney's game? I suppose, but it's a pretty great game, don't you think?

Yes, it's just a job. It has long hours, little pay and rude guests. But ruining the magic for some guests you've never met goes beyond venting and more towards downright cruel. No one is forcing you to work at Disney and no one is forcing you to post about it here.

Thanks, Bounce Tigger. I understand that we all have a hard time with our jobs at times, but I did find it a bit, well, kinda mean-spirited to post here about how awful Disney is to work for. Now I think next trip I may be thinking about each CM, "Hmm, I wonder if they hate it here."

I think it is wise to also be careful about posting about hating one's employer on a website that drums up a lot of business for said employer. I actually know a few people in real life who have lost their jobs for posting negative things about their employer online. I wouldn't doubt for a second that WDW has people assigned to read these boards. Most marketing departments closely monitor message boards for what is being said about their company. I'm paranoid about that stuff!

KellyNY, the CM jobs that were cut were not in the parks. They were all office jobs, from what I've heard.

Oh I'm so glad it's all about you and how much money you spend. We love the fact that people rub their money in our faces. It feels so good that we do so much work for $7.46 an hour and we can barely afford to eat and your worrying that people are cranky. :sad2:

I love going to WDW, but I would never think of rubbing money in the face of a cm, or anyone else for that matter. Maybe there are people who would do that, but I seriously think they are probably in the minority.

That sounds like a management issue. Maybe you should address that with your supervisor.

Actually this is my third time working there. Also it's a companies job to take care of their employees which we all know Disney doesn't

Another management issue.

And by the way, I can deal with a cm not being particularly friendly, but if they are acting down-right rude to me, for no apparent reason....sorry, but I'm not cutting them any slack, in that situation.

It sounds like you are an angry employee. I bet your boss would be interested in reading some of the things you've posted on this thread.

I do not think it is wise to use real names and provide enough info for the employer to recognize you. If you are careful you can tell anything without being afraid to be fired.
I also think it is OK to CMs and guests to have negative comments on this board, it is public and everyone has right for opinion.
I heard about park cuts, otherwise why there are definitely less CMs then before.

I think if a WDW employee is posting in here, and if the site is being monitored by certain individuals, they could track down any screen name to find out who it belongs to, and know that they are a WDW employee. There is nothing that is completely safe and secure on-line.

We all know and are taught while growing up what jobs pay well and what jobs don't. We are told early on what a good education can do for you and what happens if you only get through High School. It's easy to see while at a young age who drives Mercedes Benz and who drives old cars and what their jobs are. You chose to do what you do, if you are unhappy with it make a change, get educated or trained for another job. And BTW, can you imagine how hard it must be to be an immigrant, move to the USA and not know the language? Most immigrants that I know are quite wealthy, moved here with nothing and did not know the English language. What's your exuse?

That's not necessarily true....we don't ALWAYS get to choose. Not everyone is able to attend college...some may not have the financial support to go.

For me personally, most immigrants that I know, are not wealthy.

Technically if person did not give real name(I do not remember if we were even asked for) during registration to this site and gave email like yahoo or gmail that not connected to real name, address and so on, then it will be very difficult to find out real identity. It is possible to track network and computer being used by it is pretty serious and illegal way to track. Even providing registration info by this site would be illegal, so yes it is possible with some very intensive work to track but it is huge invasion of privacy and if someone will be fired as a result, they will have all the rights to sue, therefore I do not think it is possible. I believe people who were fired over some negative comments used their real names and btw poster who told us about it never said it was this site to begin with.

Agree, many people, many situations and btw today many very highly educated people are unemployed, go figure. Lets also not forget some people get parents who bought those cars and help them out and some people have to help their families instead. So, yes we live in a great country with endless possibilities but it is so hard to become someone.

I moved back to this crappy country

which you obviously hate based on your statement, so move back.

I had a total  moment when I figured out you were a CM, that explaines (but in no way shape or form justifies) many of your posts. I do have a hard time understanding why someone who complains and hates thier job at Disney would spend time in thier off work life on a Disney message board?? :confused3 Seems like that would be the last place a disgruntled employee woud hang out, as it would remind most of work.

KellyNY why that may be true often time many employees post things from work (yeah stupid I know) and the IP can easily be tracked. We have many a people termed every year at my work place over silly things like that. I know if I'm gonna bash my company on a public forum I'm at least smart enough to wait till I get home to do it! ;)

Well, since this site is run by Disney (I believe), and if a poster states in a post(s) that they are a WDW employee, seems to me like it could be traced as to whom the poster is. I do agree, though, that it would be an invasion of privacy.

And if an employee were fired because of negative comments they might make in here, it would never be stated or documented that they were being fired because of negative comments posted in here. They would come up with some other reason for firing that individual.

We are taught early to study and how important grades are, if you have good grades you can go to college for free or little cost.

We must know different immigrants. The ones I know make sure that their children are getting properly educated. Their children are not as concerned with getting tattoos, piercings, cars and so forth like so many American youth.

First off I had a 3.8 gpa in high school so I had good grades.Secondly I am in college and I have a 3.7 gpa this semester. Also there is nothing wrong with tattoos as they generally mean something to the person who got the tattoo.

I also have an old car that I spent years restoring I didn't just buy it I worked my butt off fixing it up.

Well, we disagree on this, but I guess that's for another thread.

Have a nice night!!
