Cut the grumpy CM's some slack

First off I had a 3.8 gpa in high school so I had good grades.Secondly I am in college and I have a 3.7 gpa this semester. Also there is nothing wrong with tattoos as they generally mean something to the person who got the tattoo.

I also have an old car that I spent years restoring I didn't just buy it I worked my butt off fixing it up.

I was thinking that too. Piercings and tatoos are nothing more than personal expression.

Well, since this site is run by Disney (I believe), and if a poster states in a post(s) that they are a WDW employee, seems to me like it could be traced as to whom the poster is. I do agree, though, that it would be an invasion of privacy.

Incorrect. Pete Werner owns the site and has said many times on his podcast that neither he nor his employees work for Disney.

In response to other posters, many of the frontline CMs that make minimum wage do have a college education (including graduate degrees). It's a huge company and getting a salaried job is very competitive and difficult.

And if an employee were fired because of negative comments they might make in here, it would never be stated or documented that they were being fired because of negative comments posted in here. They would come up with some other reason for firing that individual.

This site is not run by Disney, so Disney have no legal access to private info. You right if someone will be fired as a result of illegal tracking, nobody will mention it but then how we know for sure that was the reason.

We are taught early to study and how important grades are, if you have good grades you can go to college for free or little cost.

We must know different immigrants. The ones I know make sure that their children are getting properly educated. Their children are not as concerned with getting tattoos, piercings, cars and so forth like so many American youth.

There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself and there is nothing wrong with getting a part time job while still in HS to save money for car or whatever you want, builds independance. As for your consept of immigrants, very general, some are doing pretty well some don't. I know both. I am not agree that American kids are all that bad, in this case according to you all good jobs would be taken by immigrants and Amiricans would all collect public assistance due to complete lack of skills. See, it does not make any sence.

P.S. Just realized we are doing huge mistake to separate Americans from immigrants at all. Remember the moment immigrant become citizen, he and his kids are Americans, just like us for one little exception, they cannot become a President of USA. So the correct way would be to say people who were born here and people who weren't.

That's not necessarily true....we don't ALWAYS get to choose. Not everyone is able to attend college...some may not have the financial support to go.

For me personally, most immigrants that I know, are not wealthy.

There's always student loans. They'll give those to just about anybody.
And I have a friend who is a single mom with three kids, who works 2 minimum wage jobs, puts the kids in bed, and then stay up taking college classes online. If you want an education bad enough in this country and are willing to WORK for it, you can make it happen, no matter who you are.

Interesting thread. I just read through all the comments and I am torn on the subject. On one hand I don't think rudeness by a person in a customer service job is acceptable, I do think we need to realize that CM's are people just like us too. I work with the public and it is a difficult job. I am sure CM's take a lot of crap for things that aren't their fault just like I do with my job. I can tolerate CM's who are just kind of there and performing their job without "magic" and don't think I would ever complain unless a CM really crossed the line with me. That is how I am in the "real world" too. I often wonder what it is like to work at Disney and I can see it would have its ups and downs. I think if I was miserable working at Disney I would work at Prime Time so I could "tease" the guests or be the Queen of Hearts, wicked stepmother/stepsisters or Cruella Deville. That way you could be "mean" and it would just be "cute" or "funny".;) All that being said I have never run into any downright rude CM's but guests on the other hand, well that is a whole other thread!:scared1:

I moved back to this crappy country

I tried to stay out of this one I realy did. But.....

I cant stand when someone runs down there job. (if you dont like it leave) When I hear it (someone running down there place of work) I ask how many job aplications they have filled out. Most all the time they come back and say none. Than the job you have must not realy be that bad or you would be trying to find another job. Being happy or mad is a state of mind. Pecobill it sounds like you are making yourself misserable. Try to enjoy life. If you do not like your job please keep activily looking for a new one. If you dont like the USA please try to go back to the countryl you were in before that you did like. Life is to short to be miserable.

I use to work at a place that you had to put in a 24 hr. shift but you were only paid for 16 hrs. So I found another job.

Now if you are filing out job applications good luck. If you plan on getting more school to find a better job good luck with that too. But please understand it is not your right to be mean to people just because your misserable. I know missery loves company but you have to be willing to do the golden rule "treat others how you would want to be treated"

I am in a service position with very high end clientele. Regardless of how the last person treated me, I WILL treat the next person with respect and care. That is what you hope will happen at WDW, but it is difficult with lower end employees. I am well paid for what I do, and accordingly, have the experience to deal with situations and make corrections if needed. Disney does a great job provided very good service with lower paid positions. These people do not have the skill set to absorb too many 'fires' and continue at a high level. I do believe if everything goes smoothly, then they do fine.

That said, I have not experienced problems on any of my trips. We do give off plenty of positive energy, and share our FUN with others. We also travel at somewhat slower times, so I have never experienced a spring break or Christmas crunch. Still, I have always enjoyed my trips and been pleased with the service that we receive.

I wasn't going to post on here, but this one gets to me. If you are a child from a low income home, it can be a lot harder to get good grades. Let's say you have a single parent working all the time. Let's also say that there isn't enough money to go around. If you go to school hungry because there wasn't any food in the house, you can't concentrate. There is also the scenario where the child isn't in a productive home and his or her parents don't care that the child does well in school. With no nurturing, it's tough to get good grades. People rise up all the time. I am one of those people. But, it's a lot harder for some.

As far as tattoos and piercings, I don't personally like them on myself, but I don't think they are horrible. And, this is the thing for the youth of today. When you were growing up, I'm sure there was some way that you and your friends rebelled. If a person gets a tattoo, it doesn't mean they aren't serious and focused and career driven.

This is absolutely correct. Many front line CMs that I personally know, including my husband and myself have college degrees. The unfortunate part is that especially in this economy the degrees that we have pretty much count for nothing (have you ever tried to get an entry level position only to be told you need 2 to 4 years experience? :confused3 ).

We work for Disney for several reasons. 1. because it is a job 2. because we love Disney. That doesn't mean we get the positions that we were hoping for. It's hard to work attractions or merchandise when the only position available is food services.

Moving up in the company isn't a hard work game, it's a politic game. That's fine for someone who knows how to play politics but many do not. Yes, you will find that in any job, but it seems more prevalent at Disney.

Do we love our jobs (at least my husband and myself)? Yes of course. I am currently seasonal myself because I did find a different job that allows me to work from home right now, but my husband is Full time. I can tell you from both my and his experience you can love the job to pieces but after the 4th person in a day makes negative comments about your intelligence just because you're working food services... it's hard to smile.

I'm not saying cut the CMs some slack. But even if one looks tired or sad or even angry from something someone else said... smile at them. We spend our entire day making the guest's day it can just make our heart soar to be appreciated or be smiled at. You would be amazed how many grumpy, ungrateful or angry people we deal with. And while we still deal with them all with a smile (or at least try to) it makes the day so much better to see someone really love us for what we do.

That's all. Thanks for listening. :goodvibes

Thank you for sharing. I believe some guests just feel like kings of the world on vacation. I think they try to compenste for their sucky jobs by insulting someone when they cannot do it in real life. Very sad.

I think it's great that your friend was abe to do that...but I think that is the exception to the rule, if you are referring to individuals/families who are living at poverty level or even low income. You don't really know what situation someone else is in, and what possibilities there are for them, unless you are them.

You said that very well.

It's hard for some people to understand and/or think about what you said in this post, because they are not in that kind of situation. A child's home life has such an affect on their performance in school and also from a social aspect. Children are born in to the family/environment that they are born in to....they don't have a choice. It's real easy to say, make good grades, and you'll be fine when you become an adult, but it's not necessarily practical.

I have to say thank you to the wonderful CM we encountered at MK. On Dec 3, it was just a rainy, miserable day. We braved the elements, threw on our ponchos and went to the park anyway. While shopping, I discovered the cute Dooney & Bourke Disney purses & wristlets. A bunch of women were going through them looking at all of the details and wanted certain things on theirs-it to say WDW rather than DL, a glass slipper, a Mickey. So when they were all finished, I decided I wanted one. The CM at the counter noticed me studying them and asked what I was looking for and if he could help. He opened every drawer(at least 4 or 5) behind the counter and went thru each and every single wristlet until he found one with everything on it that I wanted. What a good sport. He did it with a smile and acted as if it were his pleasure to help me find just what I wanted. In all of our Disney trips, I'd say he was the norm rather than they exception. We never encounter rude CM's-maybe because we're pleasant and are thrilled to be in this magical place once more. While we do have very high expectations of Disney because of how much we pay, I'd say they usually deliver. A little smile goes a long way!
