Does anyone know if there is a time limit on declaring goods? We came back in July and I 'forgot' to declare an item of portable electrical equipment.

I'm fortunate enough to be going back in November and wonder if I can take it or if I stand a chance of paying duty if I'm 'caught' when we come back.

Any ideas?

Hi,
I'm guessing that it would be up to you to prove that you bought the goods in the UK or paid duty on them if you bought them outside the EU. If you can't ( as is your case here) I assume they would charge you duty. That's the letter of the law as I understand it. However if the product you bought is readily available in the UK and has nothing on it to suggest you bought it in the USA then they probably wouldn't even bother to ask anyway as you won't have any packing or USA receipts with you to alert them. That's assuming of course there is anybody manning the Customs, we have gone through several times and it's been deserted...!

Mick.
