i dont know but i think the general public has just been in a really pissy mood lately. and it seems they all want to take it out on me!!! i have been yelled at and cursed at more this past weekend then in the past year. and no, that is not an exaggeration! the kids that work for me do not deserve to be yelled at or cursed at so i step in between them and the customer and take it. but i am soooo not paid enough for this! please dont yell at people over things they have no control over! i got totally reamed (curse words and all) buy a customer because we dont wear hair nets. we are NOT required BY LAW to wear them!!!! she said she was going to call the health dept on me. go ahead! we just got a surprise inspection and passed with flying colors! they know we dont wear them! i got cursed out today because we forgot a woman's nuggets. i understand how frustrating it is when we make mistakes. but for goodness sake, we are only human and most of these kids are only 16 or 17 yrs old! ugh! i also got screamed at because i wouldnt give a man free food! i actually hung up on a customer tonight because she wouldn't stop cursing at me. when i asked her to stop she got worse. so i hung up before i said something that would get me fired! ok. i will be done now. thanks for listening.

I feel your pain! I work in a casino and deal with people all day long. 99% of them have lost quite a bit of money and are not too enthused. I know what it's like to be yelled at all day. It sucks.

Been there, done that. Sorry you had a rough few days. The sun'll come out, tomorrow............:sunny:

Sorry to hear that you've had a rough time! I used to work with the public (McDonald's years and years ago) and could never go back. I am not always the best in keeping my mouth shut and if someone was cursing me out I would probably tell them to....well, you can guess! :)

I don't think anyone deserves to be yelled at, we are all human-- we do all make mistakes.

However, on the flip side of the coin. I have been so frustrated lately. Where did work ethic go? If you are only making minimum wage does it give you the right to be unpleasant, lazy, and more interested in your coworkers date last night??? I for one have found going to the store or out to eat to be almost painful lately. Why is it that a waitress w/ 4 tables can't get my drinks for 20 minutes? Why does the cashier feel the need to scan 1 item then TURN AROUND FROM THE REGISTER AND TALK TO A FRIEND FOR AT LEAST 3 MINUTES BEFORE FINISHING your order. It just seems like the service at a lot of these places is incredibly terrible.

worm761 - that is terrible, nobody should be cursed at - we are all human.

But I do agree with kilee - the service in some places is just horrible.

Seems like everyone is just unhappy, snappy etc lately - maybe nice spring weather will help??

As someone who also works in a food svc establishment, I feel yer pain worm.

The worst customers I seem to have are mall employees (since I work in a mall food court). They seem to think that because they are fellow mall workers, they should be treated special.

One guy in particular comes to mind. We are nice enough to go around every so often and hand out coupons for our resteraunt. We are required to take said coupons in order to give someone a discount. One morning, this man comes up to my register and demands I give him a discount on X because he has a coupon. Fine...no problem. I ask for the coupon, since we are required to take the coupons and put them in our drawer. He told me he left the coupons in his store and I should give him the discount anyway. I quietly and patiently explain the policy regarding coupons and he gets angry. He asks me if why he should HAVE to go ALL the way back to his store (on the other end of the mall) to get the coupon. I explain the policy again and why we are required to get the coupon from the customer in order to do the discount. The man storms off, angry, and comes back about 20 min later with his coupons. He is all sweaty and huffing and puffing like he ran back to his store to get the coupons. He then demands a free item because he had to go back to get the coupon in the first place. I ask a mgr, who denies him the free item. He swears he'll never patronize our place again which I think is FINE since he was so rude and all.

Oh Oh Oh! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: Have I got a story for you!

I can't type it all up now, I have to go to work but as soon as I get home I will tell you.

I got chased to my truck one night a couple months ago. Guy was going to beat me up. I hurt my finger. He kicked my tire.

That's the short story.

When I did Tech. Support for Gateway Computers I had the same problem. Before I left, I was an "escalation technician". In other words, when you asked to speak to a manager over the phone, you got me. A lot of the times when they wanted to speak to me they would be very very upset b/c their computer crashed and they just didn't have the patience to sit on the phone long enough with a techie and have them fix it. As if I knew some secret computer code that could make it get done faster! I would most of the time just calm them down, and hand them back to the techie who was handling them before it got sent to me. Once in a while though they refused to work with anyone else, so I would almost always have the customer that wanted me to stay on the phone with them through an entire harddrive format & reload (which usually takes about 2-3 hours via phone).

Every once in a while I would have a person so irrational that I just had them take their computer into a Gateway store b/c I just couldn't deal with them on the phone.

thanks for listening guys! some of these customers have just gotten out of hand lately. i work at mcdonald's as a manager. i really do have a great bunch of kids working for me. and most of them have really good work ethic. i have been weeding out the bad ones. LOL

rasnlms~ i live in florida. it has been in the 70's for the last week. beautiful weather. so it isn't the winter time blues.

sometimes it is just amazing what people are willing to say, do or blame to/on a teenager. i had a woman complaining the other day about something or other and was going on and on about a particular girl. well, i was the one that made the mistake, not the teenage girl. i apologized and explained that it was me not the girl that made the mistake and the woman was all of a sudden very nice and said..oh that's ok, we all make mistakes. i wanted to ask her why it was ok for me, an adult, to make a mistake but when she thought it was one of the kids she was irrate! it is also amazing how a customer will be giving a crew person a hard time but the minute they see my white shirt their tune changes real quick. that white shirt has all sorts of power!

sorry for the rants. i had a really bad weekend! and it all started with my car dying on friday!

I just wanted to wish all of you a great rest of the week. I do not understand how we as a society have come to the point where manners do not matter any more. Maybe it is the me-first, self centered attituide that seems to be so previlent today. I for one wish we could go back in time to when there was more reserved and respectful behavior in public. :D Maybe I am just "old-fashioned".:D

I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that.

I cannot understand how people think that screaming, yelling, and cursing is going to get them anywhere.

I'm a waitress in a nice, family-oriented, old fashioned diner and we very rarely get rude people, but the occasional one sneaks in and I just hate having to deal with them but thankfully don't have to very often. Now yesterday I waited on a couple and at the end of their meal I stopped back to ask if they wanted dessert, the man looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Hell, no!" Well, excuse me but SOME people still do want a piece of pie after they consume half a dozen plates off the buffet, how was I to know HE was too full for pie if I didn't ask?! I just gave him a dirty look, and then ignored him the rest of the time and only made eye-contact with his wife. People who curse at other people are the lowest of low-lifes IMHO. If you want to curse in your own home, fine, I could care less. But DON'T curse in public!!

I have noticed that some people are more testy lately. More than in the last year. I don't know what it is, but sheesh. I didn't do whatever is ticking them off.

It went so far as to having a lady scratch me when she snatched the receipt from my hand.
But she came back a couple days ago, wouldn't look at me and was very nice. I also noticed she had broken her arm and needed help. I was my very nice helpful self, but boy was I laughing at her inside.
