LOVE all the info in the forums! I've gotten GREAT ideas from all of you!

Do you order custom maps from the WDW site for your trips? Do you order them before you go and mark them with the attractions that you want to see or do you order when you get back and mark the things you actually did?

Call me crazy, but it bothers me to order the maps marked with stuff that we might not actually do, but I'd like to have the custom maps for when i reveal our surprise trip to the kids. I thought of ordering them with everything marked, but that sounds silly.

This is just one of those insignificant things that I obsess about while I put the important stuff off!

We order them every year. Sometimes we go over and over the maps and make changes (additions and subtractions) but it's a lot of fun just to plan with them.

We ordered the maps and I was thrilled when we got them. They look so great! But, as far as actually using them, they were far from ideal. We ended up just getting the park maps when we walked in.
I kept them for the scrapbook, but in the future I will stick with the park map.

We ordered the custom maps and just marked everything... and did not take them with us to Disney World.. just left them at home for a great souvenir! The maps really look nice.

The maps given out at the parks are smaller and easier to fold and tuck into a back pocket... and everyone can have one.

I just ordered mine for the first time this weekend, looking forward to getting them, I was just planning on having them as a memento/souvenier (?sp) and maybe for planning purposes before we go.

You can always order them with no markings on them and then mark them yourselves whenever you'd like. It's nice to have them before hand so that it can add to the excitement, but after your trip you could make a night of reviewing photos and videos from your trip and marking up the map with everyone's favorites. Maybe you could even coordinate a small photo album with it of your family on your favorite rides. They are definitely best for scrap booking.

We've ordered them as well and marked all the places that we were really interested in seeing on our trip.

BUT we are using them in the park for character signatures :)
After we get home, I'll frame them and put them in the kids' room! Super cheap and easy souvenir :)

Thanks for all the input!

I think I'm going to mark everything and use them as part of telling my children that we're going. If I really want one with just the places we visited, I'll request those when I get more 6 months from now.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to suggest!

Have a great trip!

All the attractions are marked on the maps.

There's just a separate section where your choices are listed all together, so I don't know if there's really a point to selecting everything. They're set up with "Favorites" (the attractions you selected), "Suggestions", and "Even more Fun" (which is everything else).

For our first trip, we looked at Disney info online and each person picked their one "must see" for each park-- those were the ones I marked on the map. We used the regular park maps in the parks, but had our customized maps in the room. We spread them out on the bed and went over our "must sees" before heading to a park or the night before. This was nice because it helped us plan our day in the parks and there were only 5 attractions that we knew we had to do. My kids ages vary quite a bit, so this way we couldn't have one say we were only doing the "little kid" rides since we made sure to hit at least one attraction for each person.

Our last trip was a surprise, but I asked the kids in a casual dinner conversation what was one thing they had never done but really wanted to do in each park "if" we went again. I marked all these as our favorites on our new set of maps, so that trip we made sure to do many of the attractions we had missed.

If you can't ask your kids, I would just select a few you think they would really enjoy or a few of the most popular attractions for this set of maps and then let them help you order a set after your trip with their favorites.
