I'm sure that many of you will have heard of MagicYourBand.com before, and perhaps you know that we have over 500 different MagicBand Skin designs available on our website (Including some cool exclusive DIS designs from Corey and Will!). But maybe you didn't know that you can create a completely unique decal for your MagicBand using our website?

A few people here on the forum have suggested that we post a tutorial on how to create a custom design...

On our website is a section called Create Your Own Custom Design Here you'll find two main options. 2D or 3D. This refers to the way you view and edit your custom design. It's really a matter of personal preference. If you want to see a flat version of the MagicBand to work on then choose the 2D, or if you prefer to see the design wrapped around a model of the MagicBand that you can spin around using the mouse, then 3D is the way to go.

For this tutorial I’m using the 3D version but the same principals apply to both editors.

When the page initially loads, you'll be presented with a blank, grey MagicBand 2. The first thing you can do is to pick the color of your MagicBand. Selecting the color allows you to see how your design will look with your specific MagicBand color and also sets the background color of your Skin (decal) so any areas of your design not covered by images or text will be printed in this color.

Next you get to add images to your design. Here you can pick images from our library of over 500 images, that can be used as a starting point for your own design, or you can upload your own images to make a completely unique design.

You can upload up to 4 images to a single design. Images are arranged in layers. Layers are stacked on top of one another which allows you to create more complex designs.

So, in this how-to guide I'm going to show you how to create a simple Halloween style design. You can download the images I've used from HERE

To begin we're going to click on the 'Upload Image' on the right hand side. The background layer will already be selected at the top so we're going to scroll though the list of library images until we find one we like. I'm choosing the orange mosaic from near the bottom of the list in my example.

Depending on the computer and the browser you use, the preview can look a little 'fuzzy'. Don't worry though, this is just the preview and as long as you use high quality images in your design the printed output will be perfect. For the more technically minded, we recommend images of 75-300dpi in either JPG or PNG format.

Next lets upload a cartoon zombie that and to put it on the left side of the MagicBand. To do this we need to change the image layer as we already have a background image. So in the dropdown menu let's pick Middle Image.

Click on the 'Upload Image' button in the upload image panel. Then click on 'Computer' in the pop up window and find the file saved on your computer and open that.

The image you've uploaded will take a moment or two to appear. Initially your image will probably be too large, in the wrong place and facing the wrong way. That's not a problem though, as we can use the image controls in the Upload Images panel to rotate, scale and move the image in to the desired location on the design.

In this example let’s rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise and make it quite a bit smaller. We also need to move it to the left side of the MagicBand using the move buttons in the windows. We can use the mouse to drag the preview of the design around and the uploaded image can see the left section of the band more clearly.

To add another image to the right side of the MagicBand you need to change the layer once again. This time select Front Image from the list and go again to 'Upload Image'. Repeat the process of rotating the image and making it smaller but this time move it to the right side instead of the left.

The final image is for the icon or the puck at the center of the MagicBand. Customers often add photos or logos to the icon but in this example we’ll add a pumpkin. If you don’t want to cover the icon on your MagicBand, that’s ok. We provide the Skin for the icon as a separate piece that you can apply if you want to or leave off if you prefer.

The process for this is the same as the one we have used already, except this time we use the Icon/Puck layer in the selection menu. Images uploaded to the icon area are limited to just that part of the design, so even if they get bigger they won’t go past the circular part in the middle.

Once you are happy with the size and position of the images you've added, you can add some text.

When you open the 'Add Text' panel you'll see there are three text areas that you can use; Left, Right and Middle. In the same way as you would use a regular word processing application you can enter the text, select a font that you like, and change the size and color to suit. You can also use the move and rotate controls to get the text exactly where you want it.

Finally, when you're all done, you can add the design to the shopping cart. You'll still get to see a preview of your design in the cart and the checkout but you cant go back to re-edit your design.

Once you complete your purchase, the MagicYourBand automated order processing system springs in to action. It creates the artwork and print files for your order as well as the shipping labels and packing slips.

We typically print and ship all orders, even custom designs, the next business day.

I love the idea behind the skins, but I'll be honest in saying making one with a design seems complicated.

Most customers say they like the flexibility and enjoy using the designer, but for anyone that doesn't want to play with the designer we do have over 500 other design options to choose from.

Just put in my order for my upcoming trip! Designing the bands is so easy. I let everyone in my family choose a character and then I design the entire band using the character they chose. It is part of the excitement of the trip. Can't wait to see how they come out!

The only thing I think could make it easier is if you can view your design and edit it after you have added it to the cart.

I've been looking at these for a while. And now I am sure that I need to order some for our next trip. And definitely for the trip after that, to celebrate our son's college graduation.

Their web interface is quite a bit easier to work with than a dedicated graphics program, so is well suited for someone with little to no experience. One of the nice things about it is that you can play around with it as much as you like, and then just throw it away when you are done if you don't like how it turned out.

When I started designing our skins, I used their web interface for a bit, until it became obvious that the things I wanted to accomplish went beyond the scope of a of what it could do. However, I spent enough time working with it to see that it is pretty quick and easy to learn to use, and still has quite a bit of flexibility.

My design desires were more than I could accomplish that way, and so I contacted them, and they sent me out a template which allowed me to work in Photoshop.

I would say for sure, spend a bit of time playing with their interface. If you can't get things to look the way you want there, post back here, and perhaps someone can lend a hand.

We order these. Just stick them on and go. Don't come off in pools or waterparks. CM's always say "I like your magic band"... I'm guessing they have to say that.
