Hi everyone! I just got accepted into the CP Fall 2013. During my interview we talked about my top two choices, which where Character Performer and Concierge, but then we talked about my moderate interest in Custodial. I was offer the Custodial role, which I'm not too happy about. I love Disney and want to do the CP, but I don't want to be picking up trash a majority of the time while I'm there. Can any alumni give me more information about the custodial role?

Yes, I am auditioning for the Character Performer role, but that's over ten days from now and everyone tells me that its hard for CP to be a character performer.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, unless you have some sort of medical condition that won't allow you to do that role, they won't switch it.
You could have chosen "no interest" for that role in your application, and then you wouldn't even have been considered for it. You agreed in your application/interview that you are okay with doing any of the roles you applied for.
I've never done custodial, but I've heard it can be fun! You get to walk around the park and interact with guests all day! I'm not sure if WDW does this too, but in Disneyland, Custodial CMs could be trained to draw Disney characters on the pathways in water which is really cool! It's more than just picking up trash.

ArielinWonderland is right!

In WDW you can also draw the water Mickeys! :)

All the people I know that have done the CP as custodial have loved it! :goodvibes
As custodial you have a lot of freedom to wander around your area in the park and see the the different things going on!
It's a fantastic role for guest interaction! You can really take some time to talk to guests!
I always thought it was great that it's the type of role where guests don't expect something in return (like food at a quick service restaurant or a short wait time in an attraction) so it's strange to get guests that are angry with you!

Yes, it's not the most glamorous job but it's what you make of it. :thumbsup2

Both Ariel and Lyanne made great points, as Custodial is a necessity to making everything else work smoothly.

The way I see custodial is that you get the freedom and guest interaction that most roles don't receive, plus there's added bonuses. As far as custodial goes, it's pretty simple to pick up shifts in other parks to diversify your experience.

Also here's a video of the Custodial Art in The Magic Kingdom. I believe it is specialty training after your first few weeks, and then you learn how to draw characters.

Best of luck with whatever you choose to accept!

Have a Magical Day! :smickey:

My son also got custodial for Fall...He was hesitant and disappointed at first, but the more he learned about the role, the more excited he got. He is a Disney Fanatic...I think he may channel Walt...so for him, it was more about getting to do the program...Fact...thousands won't be accepted at all, and many of those would jump at the chance to be custodial.

He is also going to Character auditions, but we've heard just the opposite from you...have heard that there are many character CPs because they can pay them about half of what they pay the full time/seasonal ones.

I was spring adv and summer alum custodial and LOVED it! like lot of people I was a bit unsure, but I figured why not give it try. I'm so glad I did! I had a blast and requested to have it again when I did my alum program. It's not all cleaning, a lot of it is guest interaction. You have lot more freedom with this role so you can really interact with guests, you are like their walking map. You become the person for information, ideas, pin trading, pictures...ect. Another really fun thing is in many of the locations you learn how to do water art! I loved my hours and you become really close with the people you work with.
