Has anyone out there ever tried Curves. I think it looks like fun. I don't like to go the gym because of all the young hardbodies. I weigh just under 300 pounds and to have my fat jiggle everywhere and have these very fit people staring at you just shames me. I mean at least I am trying to get into shape and I love to swim and bike and the treadmill but, anyway I thought I would ask about Curves. It looked like it was something I would feel comfortable with.

Walls,

I've been doing Curves since February. I love it! People ther are ALL shapes and sizes, although I've heard some say that there are less fit people there. I've lost about 6 pound since mid-February, but I took a couple weeks off end of Feb, beginning of March and actually went up. I've lost 11 inches, though!

I feel better about myself and I have more energy. If I wasn't out of town almost every weekend, I'd probably be doing better with the eating thing too and lose more. SInce, March, however, I've lost ~1.5 pounds per month and the inches have been great.

As for being self-conscious, there are ALL shapes, sizes and ages. No one cares what anyone thinks. People wear sweats, scrubs, jean, anything goes. That's the great thing about being all women, you're not trying to impress anyone.

The only bad thing I've heard is that after about a year, your body may get used to Curves and you may need to do something more. I think at the very worst, check it out. If you need to do more after a year, so be it. The equipment is made to offer more resistance the faster/harder you use it, though. SO, it should be good for all levels. Like I said, I love it for the energy it's given me. I know I'm stronger too.

You may want to do a search for Curves, there have been a few other threads on it too.

Good Luck!

I too was going to check out CURVES. I am just getting started today with the new lifesyle. I am interested in it because I am better at keeping my excercise "dates" if it involves going somewhere ?? Does anyone know how much it costs ??

panfan - There is a $150 sign up fee. SOmetimes they have 1/2 off specials or 2 for 1 specials on this fee.

If you do electronic w/d and sign up for 1 year it is 29.99. Then you can get travel passes to any other Curves if you go on vacation.

I do not know the month to month fee.

Part of my motivation is knowing that I already paid for it. If you have a medical condition that you cannot exercise, they will put your membership on hold.

Let em know if you need any other info!

if curves doesn't work out for you..try 24 hour fitness..much lower starting fee than the $150 and no monthly contract.

Hubby and I just joined..because..yep..all normal looking, all size people in there!

there is also an internet special if you want to try it out...three months, full access for $149.
