Just wondering if joining Curves really does work? Need to tone up the cottage cheese butt and lose about 10 lbs. Any other suggestions???
PS....what do you think is an ideal weight from a woman who is 5'4??
feeling a little chubby lately and not used to it.

I've heard it's a good starting point, if you don't exercise at all. My dd14 is 5'4", 120, she's got some booty, but she seems to be at a good weight, not too chubby, not too skinny. Just today, as I was re-setting the weight for the treadmill, I realized that I only weighed 5 pounds more than her on my wedding day, and I'm 5'8", and thought I was chubby!

I haven't tried curves.

About ideal weight, it really varies depending on your body composition and type. I'm 5'5.5" and I think I look my best between 135 and 140.

If it gets you moving then by all means do it! It's not nearly as good as a gym. But a lot of people won't go to a gym. It's a good way to start out exercising and it's great for older women. But if your young and not severely overweight it won't serve your needs very long.

I tried curves many years ago with my mom. It was nice, but it wasn't a place to "work out". If you're just looking for a bit of exercise with some nice ladies, then it's good. If you're looking for more than that (like I was and am) a regular gym is better. I go to Planet Fitness now; I pay $10 a month and it's DEFINITELY worth it. :thumbsup2 72 pounds gone so far, and 9 pounds from my goal. :goodvibes

I did go to curves, I did lose some weight but my curves closed. When I was investigating I found a few others were also looking to sell.

I found a bootcamp near me. Its the same women only, plus there is much more nutrition guidance and the workouts are much better ( Its a little more money)
but I've lost a lot.

I did curves 6 yrs ago after my first kid. That, along with weight watchers, helped me lose all of the baby weight, plus an extra 10lbs. It works on resistance so you only get out of it, what you're willing to put in. Like a gym, you can go and hardly do anything, or you can get a workout. I go to a regular gym now, because I like the variety better. Unfortunately, I still love food and haven't had the motivation to do WW again. So, my fitness level is probably better, but no weight loss from babies #2 and #3. Sigh... :)

Thanks for the input. I am 5'4 and weigh about 115. I'm feeling like my booty is growing....:scared1: I have gone up a pants size and its freaking me out. I want to get to the gym again, guess curves isn't much of a workout. I want to have my cake and eat it too, so I think I will go back to Planet Fitness. Is walking on treadmill good enough for cardio to lose weight??? I can't handle the eliptical due to knee pain and the bike really won't work my butt out. I've noticed that even my quads are getting cellulite

It doesn't sound like you need to lose weight.:confused3 In fact a quick glance at a BMI chart shows that you're not far from underweight. But based on this information, maybe you just want to do resistance training. In which case no, Curves isn't for you. And if you really want to take pounds off, for whatever reason, I'd think you have to work pretty hard (like more than at Curves), because a reasonable diet and exercise plan will help you get your body where it should be and....it IS where it should be.

My mom and I did Curves. Mom had about 10 pounds to loose and I was there just to be doing something physical- we don't like working out

Honestly, we should've joined a gym. Curves was okay. I think it's ideal for older ladies who want to stay active in a safe way where they can also enjoy the company of other women.

Personally, Curves was pretty boring. I joined the YMCA and love it! There are tons of classes to go to and I never ever have to walk on the boring tredmill again!

Curves is very limited but better than nothing. I'd look for a better gym.

I think 115 is a good weight for you.

I can't deal with Curves (went once) because I like working out with men. They're more focused and competitive, like me. :thumbsup2

OP, you are tiny!! Even if you went up a pant size, it couldn't have been to more than a size 2 or 4. I think you just need to tone (strength training). I definitely do not think you need to lose weight. If you tone up you will find yourself fitting in your clothes differently and that may be all you need to feel like you are where you want to be. And it's always good to exercise.

Thanks everyone..... I know I'm not over weight but I do feel like as i get older my butt is starting to grow and the cellulite on my butt and legs is disgusting. Thin women get cellulite the worst!!!! I'm too embarassed to wear short shorts, i always wear the knee length ones. I'm not complaining just used to be under 110 my whole life. Well 2 kids later the snacking is starting to catch up with me. My kids and my mother in law tell me I have a fat butt???? I know my mother in law is used to seeing me with no butt and I finally have curves, but it still freaks me out. I knew the ladies on here would understand. If i talk to friends about it they just roll their eyes at me. Even us average woman have a complex. I guess I get what I deserve for not being active. On the bright side....I could look a lot worse!!!!

Call one by you and see if you can try it free for a week. I also know that avon sometimes has 2 week passes if you know someone who sell it.

You will be able to tell for yourself if it is something that will work for your or not. It sounds like you are in pretty good shape, so it proabably will not be enough, but free for a week will not hurt.

FWIW I used to work there and it was enough for me, but I did not exercise before. We would always let people do the free week.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!
Just found out that my health insurance will reimburse me up to $75 a year with a gym membership. Planet Fitness is only $10 a month so that means for a year it will only cost me $45!!!!! I have gone there before and enjoyed the 30 minute workout room. Anyone familiar with it? Do you think that is good for toning??? I will do the recumbant bike and treadmill for cadio. Can't handle the elyptical...to hard for me and my knees.

Did you say your mother-in-law says that you have a fat butt? You should tell her she has a big mouth and bad eyesight.

If you are 5'4 and weigh 115, you do NOT have a fat butt. :confused3

If you have bad knees, stay away from the treadmill. The elliptical will be much better (no impact).

Thanks....I told my mil when she said that I have a big butt to look in the mirror  I've tried the elyptical and when ever i do it i get a sharp pain in my knee that makes my knee give out. I can't do squats or lunges either. It even hits me walking up the stairs sometimes.....plus i am way too out of shape to be able to handle the elyptical. Makes me too tired very quick.
