Does anyone here on the dis belong to Curves? I'm thinking of joining and I wanted to know a little more about it. Is it real hard? HOw much does it cost? Can you join on a month to month basis?

Check out the W.I.S.H board. They have info and opinions over there about it. I also checked it out...seems ok. I decided not to join yet though. They don't have a month to month that I know of, but they do have a quarterly rate. The one I talked to said it was $149.00 plus tax, up front. Call them and ask.

Good Luck!

I belong to Curves. I pay $30/month, but it's a yearly contract. I think there was a fee when I signed up, but if you watch they have 2 for 1 specials on those.

I really like Curves because I can change my workout to be as light or strenuous as I want. It isn't difficult at all. When I first started I was VERY out of shape (could hardly walk up my stairs with a basket of laundry) and weighed...um...a lot more than I should. Okay, I was 248. I was way too embarrased about my weight ot go to a "traditional" health club, with all the size 4 beautiful people. My local Curves is full of middle-aged Pooh-sized people, who were warm and welcoming. I miss seeing everyone when I don't go. I still don't like exercise, but Curves is something I can stick with. I am now down to a size 12 and can carry the basket of laundry up the stairs and all the way back to the bedrooms without any effort :goodvibes

You will find others who say Curves was not for them. I say whever exercise you find that appeals to you, go for it. For me, it's Curves :)

Laurie :)

I did Curves for a little less than a year. I paid an initial fee to join and $30 per month. I recently had to stop because all the bouncing was really aggravating the bone spurs in my feet. I had to pay a $50 fee to stop.

I agree completely. I especially appreciate the warm and welcoming feeling you get. You truly can make your workout as hard or as easy as you wish.

Mine is also $30 per month, deducted from my checking account. I think I paid $69 as an initial fee besides that.

I am a member (though inactive right now since I am pregnant). I really enjoy going. The people are great and I feel better when I go. I too like that you can change the intensity of the work out every time you go if you want.

One thing to keep in mind is that it is not a cure all work out. You will not lose tons of inches or weight just doing the work out. YOu still need to diet and watch what you eat or supplement with other activities like walking. I used it mainly to tone up. I didn't really lose any weight/inches but I felt and looked better. I also wasn't real careful about what I ate. I also didn't gain any weight though.

I really enjoyed it and miss it and the people. I had my Curves friends. I can't wait to go back after the baby is born.

DW used to belong to curves. She managed to lose 30 baby pounds and is not back to her size she was in high school ( :cheer2: ). She really loved curves but it wasn't enough weight training to tone up, so she changed to a traditional gym. They run membership specials all the time where you can get 1/2 price joining fees and free months etc...
