Current work at the Fort

Got to the Fort at 6:50am, currently waiting for a site.

We took the dogs for a walk and were happy to see that the construction staging zone is gone.

There are 3 premium loops closed, 500, 700 and 1100.

And the eyesore is continuing to grow.

The front desk CM advised me that the Meadows construction is now scheduled to start on 5/8.

I’ll continue to report what I see. If anyone has any questions or requests, let me know and I’ll do my best.

It’s a nice morning with a good breeze blowing through the open windows as we sit in the overflow lot.

We like to check in early in the morning too, @proudmomof4 , and enjoy the peace and quiet of the start of the arrival day in the overflow lot. Have a great stay!

PS - if the work starts at the Meadow project while you are there, see if you can strike up some pleasant small talk with any of the construction workers as to what the building is going to be for.

:( I was hoping the Meadows project was cancelled. At least I got some pictures of the Meadow as it is now, right after sunrise when we were getting back from the Wine and Dine 5K this fall.

Important info for those who like to use a television while at the Fort. We always use it to have noise for the dogs, but on this trip we couldn’t get any channels. I scanned over and over and still nothing.

I went to the front desk yesterday morning and they had someone from engineering come out and check. That guy said it was a problem at the post and he would have Telecom come out.

We waited until after 7:00pm and no one showed up, but we did see them at a site across from us. I walked over and struck up a conversation, they said there had been an update about a month ago and DirectTV is no longer being used. They said I should rescan and I would get over a hundred channels. I told them I had rescanned many times. They tried to tell me my TV might be old and I should get a new one. My TV is 3 years old, I’m not getting a new one.

After the Telecom guys were done at the other site they came over to mine, even though they claimed they shouldn’t without a ticket. I told them it was called in that morning by the engineering CM. They claimed they never got it. They did a rescan on my outside TV and lo and behold, over a hundred channels. They wouldn’t come inside to check the inside TV but told me to rescan again. I went in, rescanned and got over a hundred channels. They claimed they didn’t do anything, but they must have done something.

Oh, and of the over 100 channels, half are duplicates and the people are all blue and any text on the screen is backwards. So just keep going through the channels and eventually you’ll find what you’re looking for with normal color and correct text.

The Disney IT disease is spreading to other departments apparently .....

But I'm glad you found some channels as background noise for the dogs. :happytv:

While out walking the pups this morning, there were a lot of management type folks in the pool area. They were taking measurements and moving chairs around.

We struck up a conversation with a couple of them and asked what was going on. They said they couldn’t tell us but to rest assured it would be something fun. I asked if it would be for DCV or for campers, their response was it would be for everyone.

There are stakes along the sidewalk by the pool (on the meadow side) and stakes along the canal. They have pink ribbons on them, I don’t know if that means something or not.

Further down, where the golf cart path to the pool is, there were a few trucks being unloaded. I saw small circumference PVC in a light purple color.

I couldn’t take photos since I had the pups leashes but I will report back again later.

Hmmm. Their reply sounds as if the DVCers will have access to FtW amenities. I wonder if the reverse will be true.

As a general rule light purple PVC is usually used for reclaimed water. So I assume that piping has something to do with the irrigation system since that's pretty much what reclaimed water is used for. New sprinklers perhaps?

Pink construction ribbon usually denotes property boundaries or corners.

Here's a breakdown of the 'standard' construction ribbon colors:
  • Red: Electric power lines, cables, conduits, and lighting cables.
  • Yellow: Gas, oil, steam, petroleum, or other gaseous materials.
  • Orange: Communication lines, such as telephone, alarm systems, and cable TV.
  • Blue: Potable or freshwater lines.
  • White: Proposed excavation areas.
  • Pink: Temporary survey markings, such as property boundary lines or corners.
  • Green: Sewers and drain lines.
  • Purple: Reclaimed water and irrigation lines.

That’s great info, thanks!

I walked over to the pool to fill my mug and saw these markers in various areas near the main entrance to the Meadow pool.

From that comment and the area staked out, along with the permit and lift station...

I wonder if this is for a new themed pool. The rest of the DVC resorts have nice pools. While the main pool at the Fort is big and nice, it doesn't rise to a Storm Along Bay or even the volcano pool at WL. The building could be showers/changing rooms/bathrooms and possibly a snack bar/mini-restaurant.

Building it in the field would allow them to keep the existing pool open until the new one was done.

Went to Trail’s End for lunch and on our way out stopped to chat up the DVC reps. They tried to reassure us by saying the monstrosity will not be visible from the campsites, but I said I can see it from here rising over Pioneer Hall, where’s the wilderness in that? They really had nothing to say. I also mentioned Halloween, I got blank faces. I explained that the campers put on trick or treat and the guests from the monstrosity will be able to walk right over. Their response was, well that’s a few years away.

They did confirm that the area of construction near the Settlement will be a DVC sales center (picture below) for the Cabins at Fort Wilderness and the 2 cabins in the 100 loop would go in to inventory for guests.

IMG_4253.jpeg

They said once construction for the sales center is completed the Settlement bus stop will reopen as it was before.

They are also putting up a gate for the buses as they come out of the Settlement bus stop and turn left to head into the main part of the campground.

Here are some photos of the monstrosity from the horse barn.

I hope that’s what this will be.

Thanks, but I’m nowhere near as detailed as you are, I am but the learner, you are the master.

DW says I use too many words but I try to share a lot of pics too when I'm at the Fort. My gut reaction is people react more strongly to the pictures than the words.

ED

PS - DW is an editor at heart so she inherently tries to tighten things up, cut things down, and get to the point. Whereas I often want to set the scene first (which puts readers to sleep) . She's right (of course).

PPS - Carry on. You're doing a great job so far.

Thank you for sharing the pictures and the Meadows update.
The monstrosity makes me so sad. DH doesn't even want me showing him pictures now. We still plan to do our December vacation there this year (last year was cancelled due to hurricane house flooding). Once we finally get back into our house, we'll try to book it. Yes, it's taking THIS long to get work done.

I’m so sorry to hear about your home, hopefully you will be back there soon.
