Hi to all you lucky DVC owners. I haven't visited these boards in awhile - back in May I was seriously on the verge of taking the DVC plunge (which is probably even better than the Nestea plunge) and buying in! Which I would have done by using my equity line of credit but I decided to hold off until I could pay cash. I just don't want to finance anything if I don't have to. Well, I don't have the cash saved up yet, but I've got the DVC bug really bad again. It's starting to look more and more attractive to us given the lack of discounts offered to AP holders, and many other reaons I won't bore you with.

That said, does anyone know what, if any, incentives Disney is offering right now to buy? We're already in their system and I'm sure they may be tired of us "on the fencers" but this is a huge step. I'll call my guy if I have to, but I thought I would ask you guys first, do some thinking, then call.

I would appreciate it.

Are you guys more glad than ever that you bought in? Given the current state of affairs with AP's?

DVC is currently selling SSR for $98/point. I think there's an incentive offer for $8/point discount, but I'm not entirely sure about that. Resales are available at any of the DVC resorts also, you may want to check those out as well.

Owning DVC definitely changes the way most people vacation. And as you say, no more worrying about codes or discounts.

Good luck!

I don't even remember how to look for AP rates! LOL! :rotfl: We did the fence sitting thing for about 5 years before we bought into DVC in 1997. The only regret we have is that we didn't do it right away! We too waited until we could pay cash. We kicked ourselves for years, because by the time we bought in the free pass offer was gone, and the price had increased several times. My advice is that if you are thinking about it seriously, there is no better time than the present unless it is the past! ;) Prices will only go up, and incentives will never make a huge difference in the long run. We ended up getting a home equity loan to finish off the payment.

SSR is currently $98 per point. They do still have the $8 incentive for SSR points, and if you finance they will apply the $8 per point incentive towards the required downpayment. Essentially, it's $90 per point.

You can buy "sold-out" points direct for $92 per point, but no incentives. You may also want check the resale listings if you are interested in some of the sold-out resort as you could save a bit of money there.

You guys are so helpful. Thank you.

Oh sorry, I meant "sold-out" resort points, which would include any of the DVC resorts other than SSR.

Many people don't realize that you can still purcahse OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV, HHI, or VB direct thru DVC (mostly because they don't advertise it). However, buying these points does depending on availability. DVC builds up their "sold-out" inventory by their right of first refusal on resale contracts. Of course I don't know what they currently have in inventory, but from what others have been reporting, the only location that you might have to wait for would be BCV.

And of course you can buy any resort contracts via resale.

Hi PamNC. I remember your posts back when we were all trying to figure out how the Best Rates program was going to work. Like you, we were concerned about the changes to the AP rates. We figured our days of staying in deluxe resorts at WDW were numbered and since we had become addicted to staying in the Boardwalk area so we could walk to Epcot, I was feeling pretty depressed. Then we met fellow DIS member and DVC owner dgaston at a DIS meet. She told us all about DVC and it sounded like the solution to our AP rates dilemma. We did a bit more research here on the DIS boards and took the plunge, buying a BWV resale from The Timeshare Store. We closed a few weeks ago and we're just so excited about being DVC members!

When I divide our purchase price (plus closing costs, since we bought resale) by the years of ownership, then add in our annual dues for this year, our 2005 points are costing us around $7/point. So one night in a BWV studio for the times of year we like to visit will be less than $100! When I compare that to what we paid for one night at YC with AP rates, that's an amazing deal. We could even stay in a preferred-view 1 BR at BWV for less per night than the PIN code rate we had at YC for a water-view room.

So, for us at least, it was absolutely the right move. Now, we can look forward to many more vacations at the Boardwalk.... and OKW for those trips where we want a more laid back vacation... and maybe a few days at VB to unwind before we head home... and we may do an add-on at VWL so we could stay there in early December every few years... OK, I'm rambling, but all of the DVC resorts look so beautiful we just can't wait to try them all! So, yes, count as among those who are "more glad than ever" that we bought in!

We are from Clemmons. I lived in Winston until 6 years ago when my husband and I moved to Clemmons where he was raised. We became DVC members last Oct. and we will be taking our first trip home October 28. Staying first two nights in Orlando and then going to SSR Sun-Thurs. We did the equity line since there was not way for us to pay for it. I truly feel we made the right decision in joining. Can't wait until October 30. We bought from Disney but you can buy a resale. We bought at SSR but we want to visit all the resorts in years to come.

It is nice to see someone else from Winston-Salem.

Hi there! We actually moved from Winston to Davie County (right down the road from you) 3 years ago. How about that? I grew up in Lewisville, went to school in Clemmons. Thanks to you and everyone for the info on DVC. We're going to consider the equity line thing and GO FOR IT.

We need to do a mini-DIS meet....PM me if interested.

Hi from ANOTHER North Carolinian! I grew up in Davie County, and moved to Georgia(right outside of Atlanta) after marrying a man that grew up there. We divorced 3 years later, and I moved back to NC, settling in the big metropolis of Lexington after re-marrying. My teenage daughters hate living in a town with no mall, but I truly don't mind driving 30-45 minutes to get to one! Anyway, we have been DVC members since late 1999, buying in at the Boardwalk. At the time, Old Key west was sold out, and we did not want to wait for a contract or go outside of Disney to purchase. Lucky for us! Now that our kids are older(17,15,12,11), the Boardwalk is their resort of choice! Especially now that we always end up with 2 extra teens on every trip(can't go anywhere without friends). I have added on several times...you can never have too many points! Oldest daughter will graduate from high school this year, and wants to use most of my points for a cruise for a senior trip for her and a few friends. I am still considering it...that's a lot of points(or money), no matter how we pay for it. When we first started going to Disney, we always went in October, then another trip in late Jan. or early Feb., but now that our kids have too many extra-curricular activities going on, as well as Honors classes in high school, we can't go during the school year as easily as before. We now go in the summer and at Christmas(mega points required!). I will admit that DVC is expensive(my family thinks we're crazy), but to me it is worth it. When I first inquired about purchasing on this board, the general opinion was "if you plan to vacation at Disney at least every other year, then DVC would likely work for you", and the advice I've gotten here has always been good! If I had waited until I had cash, I never would have bought in(with 4 kids, who has cash?), but I do plan to pay off my add-ons early(or sell them because oldest daughter wants to go to Elon :rolleyes1 ). I believe the current incentive is good until late September, but I have no idea what the new incentive is going to be. I personally liked the free AP offer last year the best, but I've purchased add-ons with (gasp)no incentives before, too. Good luck getting off that fence!
