What are the current AKV DVC promotions for buying in?

I was there a few weeks ago but couldn't fit the timeshare tour in my schedule.

I am considering buying in and wondering what buying new will get me over buying a resale. I'm not in any rush to go back and probably will skip a 2009 visit.

What is the likelihood of selling(renting) points in the current economic environment?

Also normally I like to go in November, December, October, Feb, April, Feb in that order. What use year would make the most sense for me? I still don't understand the concept well after reading the descriptions and I sometimes need to reschedule.

I plan to do 5 nights in 2BR Savannah. Occasionally I would like to book Wilderness lodge or another resort during those times. I would go with 160 points new as the minimum option, but not sure if I 100 resale would be OK if I plan to do say every other year.

Thanks,
Skipper

If you are not a DVC member, the offer is $104/pt, less a $6.25 incentive, plus matching developer points, on the minimum buy-in of 160 or more points.

If you are a DVC member, the offer is $104/pt, less a $8 incentive, plus matching developer points.

It sounds like, from your plans, a September use year would be ideal for you.

Does an existing dvc member need to purchase 160 points to get any matching developer points? Does it make sense to buy 100 resale near term and then 60 from dvc later?

If I had a sept use year, is it likely that I will be able to get any room type I want for Nov and Dec? Rooms seem to have many dates sold out listed in the other thread.

Is their even any chance I can get into WL during this time?

If you are already a DVC member then you get developer points with a 100 point contract and up.

If you are wanting to stay at VWL during a busy time (like December) then you really should buy there for the 11 month window.

Your use year does not dictate when you can get rooms. Your use year simply dictates when your new points are available to be used. The window of booking rolls --11 months and 7 months before arrival -- rather than being tied to your use year. The real issue with getting the room types you want is whether or not you book 11 months out. If you book 11 months to the day before your stay at your home resort, you should be able to get ALMOST anything you want. (You may still have trouble getting certain low-inventory things like AKV concierge.) If you book within the 11-7 month window, you should get most of what you want, most of the time. And if you book at 7 months or less, it's hard to say what and if anything will be available. It just depends.

Also, it's important to bear in mind that peak season (in terms of popularity) is very different for DVC that for WDW in general. The first week of December, for example, is pretty dead in the parks, but the DVC resorts will be packed. Thus, I wouldn't assume that you'll be able to book somewhere you want just because it's at what you figure will be a slow season.
