I have naturally curly hair and for the summer, I want a shorter, sassier style. I can picture what I want, yet I can't seem to find an actual photo to bring to my hairdresser.

And it is just so frustrating that every place I look for photos of curly hairstyles and cuts are either just wavy or very frizzy. Where are the photos for cute, curly styles? Why don't any of these people look real?

I want something that looks nice, not like a perm gone bad.

Where I go and get my hair cut there are always several books with curly hair styles, have you tried looking at your hair dresser ?

Most of the curly styles in the books aren't curly enough either. I've looked through her books before and she says the same thing. My hair is curlier than the styles they show. And it's not like I have tight spirals. They either show the tight freshly permed curls or the hair has a little wave. I just wish people would understand that there is a difference between a curl and a wave. And the curly doesn't mean frizz.

I have actually checked out that site. That's the one place where I actually found a style that I thought might work. This one:

But sadly, it's about the only one that comes close. You'd think there would be more...or ways that you could narrow down what you're looking for, but it always seems the choices are long, medium, short, curly. Why can't there be medium curly, short curly, etc?

I know how you feel! It seems like hairstylists don't know what to do with curly hair, so in photos it often looks over-gelled or fake, like they just took locks separately and curled them with a curling iron. And soooo many styles are for longer haircuts.

I like the style you picked; my hair is a bit longer than that right now but it's close. I had it chopped off last summer--I was on a steroid to treat poison ivy and was getting hot flashes every afternoon! The hair had to go. I didn't have a photo for the stylist, so I just told them I wanted a bob with a few layers to avoid the triangle head look.

After having naturally curly hair for 40 years I found the best thing-- a stylist with naturally curly hair. Actually I found her about 15 years ago. But any other stylist really doesn't understand curly hair. I don't look through books anymore. I tell her I'm ready for a change and she just does it. I trust her completely. She knows what my hair can do and what we don't want it to look like. :teeth: She also knows how much time I'm willing to take on my hair each day.

I found another site! Still some bad '80s hair, but a few look good. My own hair is most similar to the short curly hairstyle on page 3--the girl in the black lace top.

I'm with you! My hairdresser does have curly hair too, although hers isn't quite as curly as mine. She does a great job with mine too and I can't imagine going to anyone else. As a kid my mother used to take me to this salon where they all made me look like a 60 year old woman because that's all they knew how to do with curly hair. Imagine the trauma of that when you're 12. So my hairdresser now is a godsend and my hair almost always looks good, but I want something fun and flirty for the summer so I don't have to put it up every day. My husband would prefer it long, but he understands my summer torment, and he does like that picture, so we'll see. I'm sure that I could explain to my hairdresser what I want and she'll be able to pull it off, but I always like to have a picture anyway.

That's a cute style.

What is it with the 80's looks anyway? I didn't want that look when I was a teenager in the 80's, why would I want it now? LOL These photo sites really need to be updated. Honestly...we didn't have the internet in the 80's so those styles don't even need to be resurrected now.

Thanks! Though that model's hair looks stiff, more "helmet head". But basically that's the cut I have.

And no, I don't understand all the bad hairdos I see in the photos. It's the same for all hair types, though. And there are still some women out there with crazy fluffy 'dos and femullets! You should see some of the ladies at my workplace!
