Hi-

In my cruise Facebook group, someone just mentioned that their curling iron/ flat iron did not work on the ship as it was too high voltage.

I was hoping for some nice family pictures on formal night and was planning to bring my beachwaver curling iron.

Has anyone used one on the ship? Did it work? Or should I just leave it home and figure out another way to do my hair.

Thanks!

I’ve never heard that. There is a 240v outlet in all staterooms as the provided hair-dryer is a 240v appliance. Maybe the FB poster was using a European flat-iron in a U.S. 120v outlet ?

Maybe! Thanks for the reply, I’ll pack it and hope for the best.

Is the 240v outlet an American style plug? Or European style? I have a set of adapters, I could toss them in the suitcase

I bring my T3 curling iron on every cruise. Always works perfectly. It has to go into the normal outlet, not the hair dryer one. Disney even provides a heat pad to put it on so the dresser isn’t messed up.

The bathrooms have a dual outlet also, 120 on one side 240 on the other. You just have to watch which side you plug into.

I've used both a curling iron and hair straightener on the ship with no issues (I'm from the US, if that helps in the US/European voltage discussion).

Yep always use my iron at the desk. They have a pad in top drawer were the hair dryer is to use so you don’t burn the desk. Normal plug no adapters needed.

The 240v plug is European "schuko" style. If you have adapters, you probably already know this... but I would not plug anything in there using an adapter before verifying that it is rated for up to 240v. You can ruin a US 110v appliance that way.

That’s interesting. I took a curling iron on The Wish a few weeks ago and it wouldn’t work. I assumed it had died and threw it out. Maybe that was rash? So I guess maybe it is a thing. I had to wear my hair up all week. The curling iron I took was a Revlon. However, when we sailed the Fantasy I must have taken a curling iron and flat iron because my hair is straight in all our pictures - so they must have worked on board in 2019! I wish I could sail with my hair dryer brush. That thing is amazing. After my experience on The Wish I’ve decided I’m going to book a few blowouts in the salon on my next cruise. I can’t live with curly frizzy hair all week when we’re taking pictures every night!

Why can't you sail with your hair dryer brush?

I thought the plug in the bathroom was only for corded razors. Anything else - dryer, iron, etc. - has to be out at the desk.

We only use it to plug in a night light on the 4 original ships since the WISH has one already built in, so that may be the case. I just know you have to watch which side you plug into so that is why I mentioned it. DW doesn't use any elec hair gizmos..

Just returned from the WISH 6/26-6/30, my T3 would turn on and not heat up...FYI. Needless to say, I had bad hair for 4 nights 👎

In that Caribbean humidity you would have had bad hair in 15 minutes anyway. But that is one thing my wife and I find entertaining on a cruise. Watching women who fix their hair the first night or two, then realize in that humidity it is a complete waste of time.

That is a fear of mine! I had a T3 quit working after a trip to 30A. It would be terrible if it happened on a cruise!
