I was wondering what people think are the best Good Neighbor hotels.

We usualy go once a year and we have gone every year since my daughters were born, and twice in the same year a couple times. We have stayed at the Castle Inn & Suites. It was ok, rooms were decent, pool was ok, price was great. We stayed at the one right next to the Del Sol, Dont remember the name but I didnt like that one, my father in law picked that one. We have stayed at The Menage before it was sold and renovated and that was an ok place, good price, nice pool area. And last trip we stayed at the Red Lion. Which to be honest I was quite dissapointed with. The pool was boring and very cold, no hot tub and the rooms were new but very plain. Not even close to the Red Lion standards I've seen elsewhere.

We have 7 year old twin pixies who love DLR and I'm just wondering if there are any of those hotels close by, we like to be within walking distance or at least ART distance, that are good for families. My daughters love to swim so a pool and hot tub are important. And I'm not a fan of "modern" styles when it comes to hotel furnishings. Red Lion was described as modern and it was just dumb.

We would love to stay at Disneyland Hotel and to be honest could afford to do so if we really wanted to but it just doesnt feel right to me to spend an extra $800 to $1000 over the good neighbor hotels just to be at DLH when we really are only crashing there at night, if you know what I mean.

So, any suggestions? Any hotels that have just been awesome?:wizard:

Howard Johnsons Anaheim!!

Good sized pool for swimming. Great water play area with water guns, dump bucket and slides (no swimming in this area though ) fun for all. And the hot tub is also in teh water play area-- however I am not a fan of teh Hojo hot tub.

Rooms are good sized with fabulous beds and basic furnishings. Some offer disney views.

Within walk of the parks (8-10 minutes)

No breakfast offered if that is of on issue to you. but all rooms have fridge and some microwaves. Oh and they have though new Keurig coffee makers-- I am anxious to try it otu on our next trip.

check out their website and /or search around here in Dis. You will no be dissapointed

Another vote for the HoJo! It's always our #1 pick.

Other hotels within walking distance that get good reviews here on the Dis are:

Candy Cane Inn
Tropicana Inn
Fairfield Inn
Carousel
Best Western Park Place Inn

and for a budget stay Anaheim Plaza (no frills, but cheap and clean)

DisneyMax,
You didn't mention when you are going, or if you have your tickets, etc, but you might want to check Costco for their vacation packages. They have some decent deals and we were able to spend my birthday at Paradise Pier Hotel November1-5 and upgrade our tickets to Annual Passes for under 2000.00. This was for DH, Me, DS7,DD7,DD7(we have triplets:goodvibes) If you can, I would suggest staying on site. Ours loved the slide at the pool area, the little Disney touches everywhere, the Disney shampoo, soap, etc. The Disney story channel. I wish Disney would have that with their regular channels, I miss that! It is nice to go down stairs and have a character meal. The cut threw the GC to and from the part is great! So are the candy coins on the bed!
What I am trying to say is, if you can stay on site, it is great! I would recommend it and so would my children. So would DH!:cool1:

I'm going to put a vote in for Howard Johnsons. An easy 7 to 10 min walk to the park, immaculately kept grounds, friendly staff, an excellent pirate ship water play area for the kids. This hotel we stayed at in Feb/09, and are planning to stay there again when we visit DL again sometime in 2011.

I just got back from staying at Anaheim Plaza which is the hotel next to Castle Inn. I really liked it. The room was large, it had a huge pool (goes to 11 ft!) and very inexpensive. I have stayed at Desert Inn and Suites and the thing I like about that hotel is they have very large family suites. I would put Anaheim Plaza and Desert Inn on the same level with AP a few points higher because parking is so much easier and the pool is much nicer, but DI is closer. Across the street is Desert Palms, which is supposed to be REALLY nice

Thanx for the info. :)

As far as tickets Im thinking of buying anual passes so we can get out there 2-3 times this year instead of just once. We usualy go in the fall as my birthday and our anniversary are two days apart in september. I think this year though we will make sure to go end of sept or october to catch the halloween decorations. Havent been in October since they really started making that a big deal.

And wow on the trips. Congrats! We have twins and they are awesome. In fact, they are the reason I love DLR so much. I have a fantastic time watching everything thru their eyes.

I would like to stay at Disneyland hotel but seriously, I have a hard time paying an extra 1k for a place we will just stumble into, pass out and then leave in the morning. lol Half the time we are asleep before the door opens to our room . Im sure its nice and I will eventually give in and just do it, it just goes against my nature. lol

I looked up the Hilton and that looked nice as well although its a bit more too and farther away from DLR. Looks like the HoJo has a fan club lol I might have to look into that.

BTW Thanx mod for moving my thread, sorry to increase your work load. :)
