i refuse to go into debt. df and i have to pay for our wedding. if we can't afford it we are not doing it. hence why we cut out the MK shoot and characters a few months ago.

DF is in construction - a very scary trade to be in here in SW Florida (especially Lee Co.). Plus, we have two kids and I don't work - so finances are always tight.

I am also very frugal, which is why I'm keeping everything to an absolute minimum ($7500 for EVERYTHING - including honeymoon, which is about $7000 more than DF wants to spend, LOL). Our wedding is in May, so we will have our tax rebate, and I have a little money in a CD that I could use.

I figure if the worst happens - he loses his job - we can always postpone the wedding, since you're allowed one postponement. We will go ahead and do the civil ceremony here as scheduled, but won't have the DFTW until later.

I just have to say, you are very smart to not go into debt for your wedding. While I truly believe your wedding day should be all you want it to be, there are ways to do that without going into debt. Why add the stress of a big debt right at the start of your marriage?

As I am not having my dream Disney Wedding that I have wanted for about 13 years now. We are trying so hard not to put ourselves in debt which is not easy in lower New York. I have not had a significant increase in pay in about 5 years and everything just keeps going up. We are saving, planning and paying all at the same time. I am definatly setteling for almost everything for my wedding :sad1:. We will be using our DVC points for a small disneymoon then off to Aruba which we having been saving for but also getting to use DVC points:woohoo: since we have them, so thats saves us a bit of $$. I do intend on one day getting down there and having a vow renewal to make my dream wedding somewhat happen.

Im not getting in debt for mine either, so when people take the mik out of the date for my wedding I dont care less anymore!!

(wedding date: Decmber 2013!)

we arent gettting in debt either we have paid for our accomadation in Orlando already, then we moved on to the next bill which is our wedding we now have the money for that, next is flights then spending money and if we have enough cash wil be park tickets if we cant visit all parks never mind its an excuse to keep coming bck:rotfl2:

I, by all means, do not encourage getting into debt. I live in NY as well so i know what you mean about the poor pay increases. Is an intimate wedding out of the question? I wish you could have your day where you truly want it!

we saved for ours for about a year, we went without loads like going out and buying extras for about 6 months so we had enough money.

We will have been saving for 3 years by the time we get married, and we haven't changed too much. The one big thing that happened was that we opened a dollar bank account and transferred the money for the wedding package, accommodation and photography when the dollar exchange rate started to drop, as the predicted rate (by some) for next August would have significantly increased our costs!

We are not having videography, but asking a friend to video. DF also thinks we have dropped the Model A Ford but my mum's treating us to that to surprise him!

We also decided to spend the first 5 nights at Pop rather than the whole trip at POFQ so that is a saving - however it will also be nice to experience a different resort.

It may not seem like much but I dont want to back out of my plans now. we already put our deposit down for our escape wedding.
My DF works at a casino up here in CT they have been laying people off left and right. My cousin says that when a casino is laying people off you KNOW the economy is bad.
Now we got hit 2 days ago with the news that DF mom has Pneumonia and will probably die in the next few days and that means time off of work for him with no pay. We are good savers but the money we have saved for our wedding will go for his time off from work.
I am a stay at home mom and have been applying for jobs lately only to be told nobody is hiring or i am to inexperienced to work at places that are hiring.
I hope we can recover come tax time and I am glad that i chose to do an escape wedding because it is cheaper. I guess its time to sell my soul....:rotfl2: Just kidding!

We were touch and go for a while as DF lost his job and didn't qualify for any redundancy. That was last September (the day before we went to Orlando for 3 weeks!) and he has struggled to find something decent since.

Now we are back on track, but the $/£ exchange rate is bad for us. It has cost £700/$1260 extra from a couple of months ago but we should still be ok if things stay as they are.

We have a Fairfx card (thanks to orangetiggs for posting about it) which is saving us quite a bit with the exchange rate and no transaction fee but we might have to change our plans.

We had 1 week on the Boardwalk (DVC rent), 1 week POR (paid for by my grandparents) and 1 week CBR. The biggest problem we have is that because my employer screwed up my holiday dates we are having to go out a week later which pushes our last week to the week before Christmas and mega expensive to stay on Disney. We may stay off-property for the last week if we can't afford CBR.

We also budgeted for a stretch Hummer on the wedding day and a Dodge Durango to hire for the three weeks so we can always cut those out if needed. It would be a shame though...

My parent have offered to lend us the money if we need it but I don't want to do that. I would rather cut something out than borrow the money from them.

We have been working on getting the credit cards down too so that is always a fall-back but I don't want to go down the route of getting back into that debt.

I got engaged last summer and we aren't getting married until November 09 (over 2 yr. engagement) because we knew we'd have to save.

I know exactly how some of you feel- a coworker of mine couldn't believe I was waiting so long. I didn't want to just come out and say I didn't have a relative who could drop 100k on my day like she could!

Because I haven't really booked much yet, I haven't cut anything out yet, but I can say that it is affecting how much I can save. I have watched my gas bills and grocery bills grow and grow and grow. And I am probably having seafood at my wedding, just because I can't afford to eat it at home anymore, lol!

My fiance and I started planning for our Halloween themed wedding about a year ago. We started doing things early so that we could pay it off quickly, that was working well up until I got laid off from my job. Thankfully he has a decent job and his mom is helping us pay the rest off but we have felt the impact of the not so great economy right now. I made sure we had our Disneymoon and Disney Cruise paid off though, cause that's what is important.....right? :rotfl2:

We refuse to go into debt either. We'll be cutting back on things, like I had wanted my hair stylist to visit me at the hotel, and to pay for someone to do my make-up there. I'll go to the salon the day of the wedding and have my hair/make-up done there. We're also planning on having a cocktails and dessert reception. This way we can have our wedding at a location we love, and still afford to have a reception. We're planning on having a chocolate fountain, an ice cream bar, etc. So guests will still enjoy themselves.

I had wanted a spring '09 wedding, but we pushed that back to fall '09 to give us a few more months to save. Luckily our parents are contributing, but not THAT much, so we are taking this on our own!

I know this doesn't work in all cases, but some tips that helped me to save some $$$ were:

Do my own:
Hair
Makeup
Nails (hands & feet)
Wax/Shaving

Other tips are:
*If you have a friend whose a Photographer, or an aspiring one, you can have them take your photos (which can be a gift from him/her to you). Photoshop can take care of the rest!!

*Instead of inviting everyone, plan an escape/intimate wedding & make reservations to eat at a restaurant after the ceremony.

*Car rental. Instead of booking a limo, you can rent a car for your trip and have whoever's going to give you away drive you to the reception...I always thought it would be sweet to have my dad drive me to my wedding day...kind of like his last drop off for his little girl:cutie:

I know some of these are not traditional, but weighing what's most important, in the grand scheme of things, if it helps you have that DFTW that you've always wanted, then it's worth it! And anyway, breaking tradition can be fun! ;) Hope this helps a bit!

:thumbsup2
