Gymnastics, karate, music lessons, sports, etc., etc., etc. I'm curious as to what is average to spend per child on activities. My kids all do karate and they want to join the Black Belt Club. It would cost more than the lease on my van each month  but that is their only activity and it is good exercise. I was wondering if most families make a "car payment" for activities. I'm really glad we didn't move last summer like we had hoped to do! :rolleyes2

Off the top of my head I have to say $60.00 ish each. We take the summer off but we may do a session of Ice skating this year.

DD(12) plays basketball and volunteers her time assisting the athletic trainer at our local college. (Football, Volleyball and Basketball seasons--no spring sports, please! LOL) No monthly fees for this. Some camps in summer for basketball.

I do pay a "car payment" for her school tuition though.

I think we are very lucky in that DS (8YO) is our only child, and so far, we've been able to indulge him in the activities he enjoys.

He plays soccer 3 seasons (Fall recreational, Winter indoor, Spring Travel). This year soccer has run us about $375 for league fees and practice time, and about another $100 or so for uni, shin pads, and cleats.

He played Instructional basketball with the town this winter for the low, low, bargain price of $20.

Spring baseball has also just started, league fees were only about $60, and an additional $50 or so for pants, cleats and socks.

So for the year, I guess we're in for about $600 or so, which is not bad in my mind.

About $90/mo. in fees for tae kwon do and gymnastics all year. Add on $40 here for soccer, $30 there for t-ball, uniforms, meet fees for gymnastics, travel 100 miles each way...etc, etc. I would ball park (haha) that I spend about $150/mo on average for 2 kids.

Oh my, that is a LOT of money! No wonder why my dh says I spend too much :-((

85.00- a month for karate (not including tournaments and testing)
tball- 110.00 season
Soccer- 85 season
Skating lessons 90.00 every 6 weeks
Gym-200.00 every 10 weeks
Brownies ran me about 500.00 this school year between camping and trips and dues

My kids are not in activities yet but DS will start swimming soon and I have considered putting him in Tae-Kwon-Do.

What is killing us is the daycare expenses for two kids. We pay way more than our mortgage payment for the kids' daycare. I have always said that we should just all live at the daycare since we pay more for it than our house. :rolleyes2:

DD about 300 a month cheer...others just 60 per season for soccer.

DD5's total runs about $170 a month for ballet, gymnastics, and figure skating. That is just for tuition and does not include registration fees, performance fees, and equipment. In a couple years she'll have to pick just one activity to focus on for both timing and financial reasons.

Well its going to be a killer this month. Just for one of my daughters and my son to do football is 495 bucks. Then there is football camp for my son, you don't want to know how much. Equestrian camp for my daughter, again you don't want to know how much. Day camp for my daughter a bit over 300 for 2 weeks which I thought wasn't too bad compared to the others just for one week. We don't always do an activity. I have one in girl scouts right now and other then that until football and the camps start up we aren't in anything.

Ice skating/hockey is $125 a session - which is 8 or 10 lessons
Gymnastics is $85 for I think 10 weeks
Swimming is $60 and I think that is 8 lessons but that is the member price at our gym, it is more if you don't have a gym membership.

that averages about 135 a month.

50 bucks a month for Karate. (for two more months then it's free, providing DS passes his Black Belt test :woohoo: )

Our older 4 kids take gymnastics/tumbling for $40 per month each = $160
plus martial arts twice a week = $115
Girl Scouts = we only pay for camp trips now since we did a lot of fundraising

Our oldest will be joining our gym soon for about $15 a month so total is around $290 per month for their activities.

We dropped other activities and just let them play, ride bikes, play ball, etc. for their free days so it's not too bad financially, we are frugal in other ways to be able to afford it, and it works well for them.

:surfweb: :teacher: dd12 figure skating
20.00 per week 1/2 hour private lesson
100.00 20 session ice pass-used private lesson& practice time
600.00 new skates

100.00 skating dress and tights
45.00 home rink entry fee
40.00 annual ice show entry fee
100.00 ice show costumes
50.00 yearly locker rental at rink

My son has private oboe lessons which are about $70/month. Our oboe teacher is having a baby soon, so she'll go on maternity leave.

My daughters activity fees range. Right now she's in tennis which is $55 or $65 for a session at the rec. dept.

Summertime, my daughter does the inexpensive morning fun at the school that used to be FREE, now its $35 for 10 weeks- (M-f, 9-12)
My son used to do band camp (ok, yes, I've heard the American Pie jokes a ton! :rolleyes2 ) but I don't know if that is being offered this year.

If it isn't, we will do something else.

Well our oldest is away at University so no extra fees for her.
DS (18):
Rep hockey = 1800.00/yr + travel expenses(this year approx 2000.00) + equipment (sticks 200.00 each etc.) =
Total - approx 4400.00 total/yr or 366.00/month

Total for both(minus what DS pays himself)- $6620.00/year or $551.66/month

WOW!!! This works out to a lot! I never thought about it before, no wonder why I am broke all the time! Have to revisit this after some thought, what the heck are we doing spending all this money.

To the OP - Thanks for ruining my day, I am so bummed now!

Our kids are all black belts in Tae Kwon Do so no more fees for that :cool1: . DS13 runs cross country and track for the middle school and the activity fee for that is $50/sport. The twins played basketball for their school team and that is free. DD played on a traveling basketball team and the season fees for that were $125. We had 2 overnight trips but I don't really count those as "fees" since they were more like mini-vacations. The hotels were about $70/night for those. The twins will play soccer this summer but since we are moving I don't know what those fees are yet. DS13 starts marching band this July. The fees for the overnight trips, one is a one night and the other is 3 nights and a week long band camp is $650, which isn't bad for what they get.

DS13's band China trip is about $2000 which includes everything but his passport--meals, plane tickets, hotels, etc. I think that is a great deal!

ETA: I forgot about the twins' saxophone lessons, that is $10/week, for the two of them combined.

Well, I'm not sure how much it is monthly (not sure I want to know) but here's what we pay yearly:
Ice Hockey: 2000.00 winter season
600.00 spring season
the above doesn't include the equipment. My son is a goalie. His sticks are about 80.00, pads about 400.00, chest pad about 200.00, helmut about 200.00. Those aren't necessarily purchased yearly.
Cheerleading: 260.00 fall season
Softball: 80.00
Baseball: 230.00

Then of course there's snowboarding for fun and the equipment will run about 300.00 with 20.00 spent for everytime he goes.
Paintballing seems to be the most expensive. The gun was 325.00 and it costs about 80.00 each time he goes to a paintball place. Needless to say he can't go too often.
