I've rented cars many times and usually pay the tolls in cash but sometimes, usually with Alamo I've just driven through and had it charged after. When you pay the tolls in cash there's always a few booths there that have sunpass only. What is the difference between them and just staying on the main hwy and driving straight through ??

actually I believe what you've noticed is a few plazas that have not been changed to have the 'straight thru' lanes.

Was just over at DTD last night and came back to Canaveral 528 all the way and noticed that the plazas west of the airport have not yet been 'upgraded' ... once east of the airport the plazas are pay right and straight thru electronic left . . . also this way on 417 from 528 to WDW

(p.s. due to some SERIOUS accidents in the old toll plazas with "electronic only lanes" where folks don't slow down, some states are monitoring speed thru that plaza/lane and issuing warnings... Repeat offenders are having their transponders de-activated as punishment! Have not heard of this in FL YET)

I don't know specifically in FL but on my local toll road, they have a drive through lanes and then the booths over on the right side. We have EZ Pass in PA. So the drive through lanes are EZ Pass but there is also an EZ Pass lane with the tollbooths, I assume in case someone accidentally takes the right lane and goes into the tollbooth area.

Wow. The toll road near me has a speed limit of 80 and the drive-through lanes expressly say do not slow down. I'll have to see what the FL ones look like.

What I'm talking about is NOT the new, speed thru - don't slow down lanes

but older toll booths where an old exact change lane has been repurposed to an "electronic only" lane ... it is Narrow with the old concrete structure

these typically say slow to 35 .. or less, while a "drive thru" says don't slow down . . . .

people have plowed into the old toll booth stations at 80 mph because they misjudge ...... that kinda hurts . . .

on 528, west of Orlando there 2 of these .. .

I can't believe they haven't removed those old toll booths. They are very dangerous and probably cause many accidents. All toll booths should be removed and they should go to all electronic tolling.
