I'm a very long-time lurker and this is pretty much the only place I visit any more on the DIS. Is it just me or has there been a rash of anti-offsite posts on threads here recently? It's no skin off my nose if someone wants to stay onsite and anyone can post anywhere, but why would anyone care about this sub-forum when they are committed to a Disney-only vacation at a Disney resort using ME and never leaving property:confused3.

Are there people on the Disney Resorts sub-forum insulting or calling into question the decision to stay onsite? Really just curious.

Well, when I visit this website, I tend to only browse the forums that interest me, but at other sites I'll just hit the "new posts" button. Maybe some of the onsite fanatics are finding the posts here by hitting the "new posts" button, which shows all new posts from all forums? Otherwise, I agree. Let people have their happy offsite joys and keep the pro onsite viewpoints on the resorts board.

Nothing new. Many posters on Disney fan forums, including DIS, think onsite isn't the best way to enjoy a Disney vacation---they think it's the only way.

Maybe they think they are doing newbies a favor so they don't miss the magic? I think its a debate that will never go away. I have never stayed onsite except the Swan which tech isn't a disney resort, so what do I know about the magic. All I know is we still have had a magical time and enough $$ to do other things throughout the year.

I agree, we have stayed on-site and off-site , probably a 25/75 split. Off-site many more times.
While my kids do love being on-site, it's more a budgeting decision than preference for on or off. There are pros and cons for both.... but I also have noticed that there are many off-site bashers.

I hadn't thought about the "new posts" option. I've seen the bashing before, but never as virulent as it has been in recent weeks. The one that just amazed me was the poster who never left WDW property and never wanted to do anything else in Orlando commenting on an offsite thread. It would be like me posting on the teen sub-forum, I might have something to add to the conversation, but it really isn't my stomping ground or hasn't been for 20+years. Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the responses!

Well, back in my day (said in old codger voice), I remember Budget Board knockdowns that were amazing; however, I hadn't seen the widespread nature of the bashing on this board that I've seen recently. Sure, we've had the this hotel is much better than that hotel debate, just not the whole offsite is awful sentiment.

Thanks for all the great advice on how wonderful offsite can be!

I tend to stay onsite for Disney vacations, but our next vacation is SeaWorld/Universal, so there's still plenty of useful information on the boards.

I think it's a "to each their own" sort of matter.

If we, as off siters, went over to the resorts board and expressed our opinions about off site we would be hung out to dry.

I usually see the offsite bashing on the Disney forums which is where you might expect it. I do find it odd that people would come to a forum about offsite hotels just to criticize the whole subject of offsite hotels. I guess that they know best though (or at least think that they do).

It seems to me that there are two kinds of people who are way hung up about money. First is the "you get what you pay for" type, people who believe that if you paid more for it, it must be better. You don't have to subscribe to Consumer Reports to realize that this isn't the way the world works, but these guys don't want to hear that and can get really aggressive trying to defend their perspective. Then there's the "I found a better deal" guys, who get so excited about getting something of value cheap that they buy stuff they don't even want because it's on sale!

Most of the first kind hang out on the Disney resort board (because Disney resorts are more expensive, not because there's something about liking onsite that creates the type); most of the second on the Budget board, so most of the time the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board is pretty mellow.:) But I have yet to see a "Should I try offsite?" or "Offsite is great!" thread that doesn't draw them in after a couple of pages, and this isn't the first time I've seen one start a thread here, either. Haven't bothered checking it, but it's my guess that it's much less likely to happen if someone posts an "Offsite is great!" thread during a "Value or Deluxe" thread debacle over on the Disney Resorts board. Things have been pretty quiet over there on that front (unless I missed it), so maybe that's why things have seemed more "virulent" over here. :upsidedow
