For those of you with curbside mailboxes, do your snowplows knock them over in the winter? All over our neighborhood, there are mailboxes laying on their side or leaning due to our crazy snowplow drivers. Is this common in other areas?

It rarely snows here, and when it does, the snowplows never touch the mailboxes.

I wonder if you put up a concrete base for your mailbox, if the lazy snowplow drivers would wake up.;)

We seldom get snow and as far as I know a snowplow has never been down my street. It does go down the major streets and I haven't noticed mailboxes down, but our curbside mailboxes are brick like our houses.

The only cause in our neighborhood, of mailboxes on their sides, is the school bus....turning around in the cal-de-sac. We have salt trucks that mostly come down our street. We have not had issues.

Well, we get snow. Usually a ton of it but Mother Nature is being kind this year. ;) The majority of mailboxes in our neighborhood are either in a stand of bricks or a Rubbermaid one. They don't get hit. But the ones on a little wooden or metal post...I've seen a few of them whacked off mid-post.
The best protection is when the snow gets piled high enough on the side of the road that the mailbox is IN a snow mound.

No, but we are thinking of getting a House Box!;) Turns out you have to have approval from the Post office!

Mystreet is pretty wide, as it is a connecting street between 2 other main roads, so we don't have much of a problem with that. I have seen some of the smaller streets in my town where it appears that a few mailboxes have fallen "victim" to the plow though!

we have never had our hit since it if not right along the road. i have friends in massachusetts that have this happen all the time up there.

they tell you to put up a piece of plywood a few feet to the side from which the plow is coming. this warns the driver there is a mailbox ahead, since sometimes you can't see it, and holds the snow mound back so it doesn't cover your mailbox.

Wow, our plow drivers must be good shots - they even knock down the "Gumbys" (aka Rubbermaid mailboxes). ;)

Ah, man!!! I've got a gumby and didn't even know it!:o

LOL!

We have had a curbside mailbox for 15 years. The only time it got damaged was by vandalism. And yes, we do have snow here.

New neighborhoods in our town can't have mailboxes at the door. It's faster for the letter carriers to deliver mail from their car than to walk the routes. I grew up with a mailbox at our door, and we lived in an older neighborhood when we first got married. Now that we have a newer house, we have to get our mail at the street.

I work at our local Post Office and our town plow never has hit a mailbox, but the ones out in the country get hit fairly often. If the county snow plow htis your box, they will fix it or even get you a new box. If the state plow hits it, you are just out of luck.

I'm on a fairly busy street. We are now on our 4th mailbox in 9 yrs. A plow has never hit it....but the slush and snow that the plow kicks up has!! The town has replaced it 3 times. Now, we did just lose it again. But it wasn't a plow. It was a young man who couldn't quite navigate the corner we're on. Took out two mailboxes, gouged my brand new driveway, bent the fire hydrant, and bounced off my oak tree, finally coming to rest up-side down in my front yard!! Thank heaven he wasn't hurt.
I figure the winter's not over yet. The town may be here yet, replacing yet another one.

My box has never been knocked down by the snow plows. I have never seen any knocked down on my street, either.

I wish we could have a house box. Our mailbox has never been hit, but we're one of the few lucky ones. Most everyone else has now, or in the past, had their mailbox destroyed.

After 11 years in the same spot, just this year, the town was here replacing the one the took out over the Xmas holiday...

We have a roadside box ;) No crubs.
Never been knocked over by a plow, a school bus or a logging truck...........only by a drunk driver once and a couple times got a bashing by vandals.

Because I LIVE in MIAMI, and they have RULES and REGULATIONS for EVERYTHING!!  I HATE Miami.........
