Does it bother anybody else to see long hair flying around in the kitchen? Seriously, put it in a ponytail at least! Very few bakers have their hair secured and some actually keep pushing it behind their ears while baking.

I've always said the same thing about the other cake shows, Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes. I know that you never know what people do in the kitchens of places that are not on TV, but I would think that you make an extra effort if you know millions of viewers are going to see it. Yes, it's gross.
I agree. Did you watch Worst Cooks in America? The red-haired woman (Kelsey?) always had her long hair in her face. I guess they don't pull it because they know they're being filmed and want to "look their best", but they (or at least the Food Network) should also be thinking about hygiene. I know Chef Anne on Worst Cooks always threw a fit if someone cut themselves and didn't (a) wash and cover the wound right away and (b) throw away any of the food that was touched by any blood, but she never said anything about hair all over the place.
I don't watch any of these shows but I assume that the food is made "just for the show" and the general public is not eating it?
I'm sure that when these cooks/chefs have to make the food to serve to the public, they have to abide by all the safety rules (handwashing, hair nets) and they probably don't sweat because they aren't working under a time constraint?

I do not think that would be accurate. The winner's cupcakes are served at an event (usually a benefit or corporate party.) That's the premise of the show -- they're "battling" to see who will get to serve their cupcakes. There was a blurb in the USA Weekend magazine that's in the Sunday paper today asking what happens to the loser's cupcakes. Apparently they're offered to the crew, and any extras are donated to food pantries. They all get eaten.
Back the OP. I don't watch regularly, but I guess I never noticed the hair. I have noticed the sweat and/or wiping their brow with their hands and then going back to work. Ick. That does gross me out.

Um, was it a blonde who seemed bubbly, very outgoing? think a lesser down version of Anna Nicole Smith but doing cakes?
and tying one's hair back is in food prep 101, either that or a lunch lady net. and I never see anyone like on either cake or cupcakes show wash their hands but they could have done that prior to the show starting.
Personal and professional hygiene is an industry wide problem. If people who are being filmed for TV don't see their own issues, you can imagine how it is without the cameras.
You'd think negative feedback about contestants' hair in faces, touching sweaty faces and dirty fingernails, etc, would cause some changes, but so far on these type shows, that doesn't seem to be the case. We can only hope that some people who cook and bake will learn from watching others.

the bad things about these shows for me: I start watching and I want to make cakes and cupcakes right then. I keep a supply of cake mixes and stuff to make the frosting-store bought frosting is the devil for me. dang, now I'm getting hungry. and yes I do wash my hands and put my hair up cause eeewww. lol
