Cup of hot water

We only come to wdw in Jan or early Feb. It is not uncommon for the evenings to be pretty chilly. Last year my husband asked for a cup of hot water at a quick service in the MK and was told they can’t give or sell hot water only tea. My husband purchased tea for over $3 and she handed him a small cup of hot water and a tea bag. We tossed the tea bag and I used my own decaf tea bag. This has never been an issue in past years but I know many things at WDW have changed! We only tried at the one location and so I don’t know if this was a confused cast member or if it is common practice that you can get a free cup of ice water but not hot water. Arriving soon and wondering what to expect. Anyone requested a cup of hot water?

I would plan on being charged. You are asking for the water - to make your own tea. When they give free ice water, those are small cups (as in bathroom Dixiecups)..

Hot cups are pricier than cold cups, you generally can't give those out so you'll probably be charged for it.

Just backing you up that this was allowed in years gone by - we like a cup of hot tea and don't like the tea bags that WDW uses, so we have carried our own bags in and gotten free cups of hot water, but we haven't tried it post Covid, so maybe it's no longer free.

And the ice water cups are larger than bathroom Dixie cups - they're the size that come with kid meals.

My wife has done this for many, many years at WDW (and many other hotels, resorts, restaurants etc.). Almost always, they charge for the price of tea (because they say they have no way to enter it into their system). She then uses her own tea bags. I don't recall any time where they gave her the hot water. But, I should also mention that we almost always are eating at TS. So, I don't really know what would happen at QS locations.
