I work in an ICU, and we give our critically ill patients (on the heaviest of antibiotics) either culturelle if they can swallow a pill, or Nancy's yogurt or Kefir if they can't. (Sorry I can't help you find the chewables!) Maybe ask your pediatrician if this would be OK for your child?

Thanks thats good to know. Hopefully that info will help some on here. I did ask dd's doctor if yougurt would be good and she recommend culturelle or florastar (something like that).

If you buy the capsules, they can be opened and added to applesauce for little kids who can't really do chewable a safely.
:)

I just go to the health food store and get chewable acidolpholus. I think Whole Foods has these too. Acidolpholus is the active ingredient in all of these things. It helps to re-establish the flora in one's intestines or combats the destruction while on an antibiotic. Currently, we have banana flavored. We like the strawberry too. Yogurt doesn't have enough live culture. BTW, it has to be refrigerated.

I bought my DD chewable probiotics for when she's on antibiotics.

I def bought them at CVS. Maybe they were just out of stock at your CVS. They were pretty expensive though. I want to say $20 for a bottle of 50-60 pills.

Target has the sugar coated gummy bears they are wonderful (yummy) and worked for me! They cost $18.00.

This is what we've always done - DS doesn't even realize he's eating it.

Forgot to mention I wasn't sure if these would be covered under flex account. Dr. Gave me the ex for over the counter culturelle or florastar

We used BioGaia for my son (6) earlier in the spring when he was on some pretty heavy antibiotics. Our pediatrician recommended it over a lot of other stuff. It's a chewable that I got at Target in the pharmacy. The pharmacist ran it through like a prescription so I could use my HSA card on it. I think it was about $30 for 25 or 30 tablets. It helped for sure!

I found it to be the cheapest at Walmart. (I give my youngest the Culturelle packet that you put in a beverage). I bought the chewables as well at Walmart for my older daughter (she actually hated the taste). I found the price varies a great deal. I think Walgreens had it for over 30.00 and Walmart usually has it for under 20.
