Cultural differences?

It isn't: that would be a normal lactating nipple, looks likes it has just been used for feeding.

Which I hope people could agree, would be exactly what that pciture is all about even if it doesn't match the article. Looks like a happy baby that just got finished eating.

I don't know...mine always looked like little drunken sailors after they ate...

Ohhhh good grief!!!
This thread has degenerated just like all other threads on this topic.
And, it is still here on page one??? On and on and on.... Another energizer bunny.

I have to say that it gets really old hearing the liberal, let it all hang out, crowd try to use the issue of breastfeeding to justify their views.

I am PRO breastfeeding!!!

And, it is very obvious that breastfeeding with a little discretion is completely different than displaying a bare, engorged, nipple on the front page of the media. HUGE difference.

Try to accuse me of being anti-natural-breastfeeding.
Try to call me prude.
Try to call me repressed.
Try to blame all the ills of society on me.
Try to call me 20 years behind.
Try to call me whatever you want.

Name call all you want, but you would be completely wrong.
And I just ain't buying it.

Get a new playbook as this one, liberal vs conservative, is not only getting old and stale, but the only one you're fooling is yourself.

I never said liberal in the political sense.
And, yes I feel that the word liberal does appy in the sense of a broader and less restrictive in nature.

The other word that I have used also fits the definition in the way that I have used it. If that one word offends you, then... :confused3

I am not going by a playbook here.

Yes, both politically liberal and politically conservative women breastfeed.

Maybe, completely by accident, you have actually stumbled onto my point.

Breastfeeding has nothing to do with how appropriate one feels that it is to display what is shown in that picture.

I do not buy it when somebody uses breastfeeding as a reason or excuse to make a public display. Several posters here have given examples of this. It really does nothing to help their argument.

Again, there is a huge difference between actually breastfeeding with a bit of discretion, and the display of this picture on the front page of the media. Do not assume that everyone who does not feel that this picture on the front page is appropropriate is a Conservative, Prude, Repressed, 20 year behind, anti-breastfeeding, person.

I don't know your political affiliation, but 'less restrictive' is a Republican value, we call it freedom.

I think the current GOP (including leadership and many members) has forgotten that, but I really don't want to hijack this thread. ;)

I am thinking that Republicans want the government to be less restrictive as far as most governmental regulation.

However, I think that it is fair to say that the Republicans are considered to be MORE restrictive in their own personal views on things like what is considered morally appropriate.

It all depends on the issue.

Personal views as to what is considered appropriate in two different cultures is what is currently being discussed here.

Again, I was using the word liberal in the general sense, not the political.

My family has been Republican since Abraham Lincoln. And yes, I completely agree with you. Many HAVE forgotten. Maybe we should start a thread about the current state of the US Constitution. :)

I can´t imagine what they would be, if not at least one of the above.

QUOTE]

Is this in relation to my post? If so, no, the word "engorged" does not offend me. In fact, I often use it several times a day at work!

(Maybe I should add, I use it in reference to breast engorgement: breastfeeding support is part of my job, hence a strange knowledge of nipples :lmao: ).

I still respectfully disagree with your use of "engorged" in this context.

You know, I just showed DH the picture under discussion. His first thought was "what an adorable baby" when I pointed out the nipple to him, he said "yeah, so?" This is a man who finds breasts VERY attractive and he did not find the picture even remotely sexual. Of course maybe he was desentitized by watching me breastfeed for so many years.

Of course in other contexts, he's not desentitized at all.

It is possible to see the same object (forgive the word) differently in different contexts. If I went around flashing people on the street, that would not be appropriate. If I am on the cover of a magazine having just finished breastfeeding and my nipple is exposed (and engorged) - that has nothing to do with modesty and is completely appropriate.

Somebody who has their own personal feelings, different than you seem to have, regarding modesty and what is considered appropriate.

No more, no less.

Alright. So if I choose to walk naked down the street, breastfeed my child without covering up during mass, encourage my kids to start exploring sex at an early age and so on you do not consider me to be "no more, no less"? You just consider me to have different feelings than you have? No opinions are more right or wrong than others in your opinion?

You sure haven´t sounded that way throughout this discussion.

:thumbsup2 well put!

Total understantement, but true. :rotfl2:

That was all to support her point of view, not yours. ;)

We are all entitled to our own opinions...as long as your opinions don't disagree with mine.

Cute baby!!!

However, I fail to see how a close-up of an engorged breastfeeding nipple adds anything to it, at all.

Add me to the list of so called 'prude' and 'repressed' Americans!!!! :rotfl2:

To be fair to the OP, you were the very first person to use the word "prude" in this thread (post #4). And you did label yourself as one.
