Anyone else make a purchase and smoke them before they get home? It is like one of our life's simple pleasures sitting on our verandah with a mojito in one hand and a fine Cuban in the other watching the ocean go by. Never gonna risk getting in trouble with the man by bringing them back.

My brothers and brother in laws did purchase some while on our cruise. They all met up on the top deck and enjoyed them.

Yep I bought three and smoked them at the Cove cafe with several other people the we did our tour.

Toasted...kid/cuban story for you...
On our Western in February we used a get-a-free-cigar coupon in Grand Cayman. I figured I'd bring my friend a cigar home, even if it wasn't a Cuban. It was a local-rolled cigar. I packed it in the luggage and forgot about it. When we were checking through Customs in PC when DS11 was standing next to me when I handed my Customs declaration form to the officer (with a gun and quite intimidating, although somewhat attractive ;).) He says to me out loud, "Hey, Mom, did you tell him about the cigar you got?" OMG I very quickly corrected him and said that it was not a cuban cigar which is illegal - it was just one from Grand Cayman and it was legal. Holy crap - all I could think of was a cavity search!

Okay, you had to be there. I'm sorry - as a Mom, it's the cute moments like that that I live for.

I hope you get to smoke your Cuban. I know that on the Western in February I smelled a cigar in the smoking area on Deck (9?) near the coffee shop. It smelled great. Much better than those smelly cigarettes.

Just curious, Whats the big deal about Cuban Cigars?

As in why they're supposed to be good or as in why they aren't allowed in the States? :)

How does one tell a real Cuban Cigar from one someone says is Cuban just to sell?

Cuban cigars are banned in the US. The brand will tell you if it's Cuban or an imposter.

I would like to know why they are supposed to be good. I have never smelled any cigar smoke that didn't make me gag.... now a nice pipe on the other hand.... I love to hang around men with pipes. lol

On our second cruise DH had a cuban cigar, he had never had one before and enjoys the occational cigar at home. He said it was the best cigar he had ever had. I took his word for it. :teeth: He can't wait to get another.

I have had several Cuban cigars they are the best. They use ONLY leaves from Cuba. The climate, soil and the seed they use is the reason for there taste. It is a lot like wine the region and the grape create such a flavor the some people can tell you where and when the wine was made.
I am most defiantly a causal smoker, I’ve had less than three senses we were on our cruise in Oct., but I can tell the difference. With or with out a wrapper. AND be very careful about buying Cuban cigars there are a lot of fakes out there it is very easy to print and stick on a label.

So how can you tell if it's real or not?

I know real ones in the U.S. are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but sine they are legal in the Bahammas, how much are they?

First off there is no way for a casual cigar smoker to tell if its a cuban or not. So only buy cigars from a reputable store and not from any small shops. If you search Cuban Cigars there will be the names of places to buy from. the prices will range from a couple of dollars up. just like a wine the price for the brand will dictate the price.

Second due to the fact they come from Cuba it is illegal to bring them in the US if you are a US citizen, you can however bring in 2 boxes for personal use if you are a citizen of almost any other country and just visiting the US.

Third the cuban cigar is one of the top cigars in the world and the seed for these cigars are sold all over the central american region. You will see a lot of cigars that state made from seeds from cuba, these are not cuban cigars. Most are from Honduras.

Fourth and finally I cannot wait to be sitting on my veranda with a nice cuban cigar and a sifter of cognac watching the ocean go by.

Change that from a sifter cognac to tall scotch and my DH could have written that line! :teeth:

US Customs changed the rules regarding import of cubans last year;you may now bring back $450 worth of Cubans with you from a cruise legally.

I have heard of them going in the US for $20 a piece. I bought 3 in Nassau for $10 the were real. I can tell by smell. Best to go to cigar shop/ smoke shop out in the open if they are too good to be true than they more than likely are. You will pay a little more for them but you get what you pay for.

I believe you might be mistaken on this. I would defiantly double check before you decide to try and import them in to the country. Here is what I found on the US customs web site.

Bringing anything back from Cuba is a BIG no-no!

I recently returned from Canada where you can purchase Cuban cigars we brought a few back and was told that a US citizen can not bring back cuban cigars. They recommended taken the bands off and mailing the bands home. But you are not allowed to bring anything exported from Cuba into the US.
