Hi...so I have a little rant, I don't know if I would really call it a "rant" per say, but more of a bit of a rambling about a social networking site that has been gaining popularity recently. Please, don't think I am going into this as a complete outsider......I had a twitter for a few months, and I have to admit it was pretty fun to tweet every once in a while and see what some of my friends were up to. But as I continued tweeting, I realized how incredibly self centered I am, and people in general are. We like to make ourselves believe that people care what we're doing every minute of every day. To be honest, I don't really care if my friends are doing laundry, or taking their dog for a walk.
There are some good things about twitter, it's a way to communicate with friends who you've lost touch with (although there are other programs much better suited for reconnecting, for example, email.) You can follow bands and famous people, and they often tweet updates pertaining to concerts or upcoming album releases. I don't think twitter is completely useless, I mean there are SOME good things about it.
But what I've seen on twitter, hasn't been so good. A friend of mine uses twitter quite frequently, and by frequently I mean every day. She is constantly on her phone, tweeting everything she does. Clearly twitter has gone too far...and I know that my friend isn't the only one like this. Please don't think I'm purposely insulting people who use twitter, I'm not, sure it can be fun. However I think people need to stop for a second, and look at what they're doing....slowly but surely people are becoming more conceited by the minute, and twitter makes it so much easier to do so.
What are your thoughts about twitter?
