Just curious...DD will be turning 16 three weeks after our trip to Disney. We'll be staying at CSR for the first time. While I know its a large resort, would you feel comfortable letting her walk to the main pool/food court by herself. (We both have cell phones so we could talk while she's walking). While I think Disney is a fairly safe place, I'm a little concerned with how large the resort is and the number of business people there for conventions.:confused3

I absolutely would, even though I havent been there yet. 16 is 16. Isnt she driving already? And on her own out with her friends?

We have stayed there six (soon to be 7) times and I would have no issue with letting my daughter (if I had one) walk alone from her room to the pool, etc. We have often seen young kids--and probably younger--than 16 walking alone to the pool, food court, etc.

To me, Disney is just another place. Would you feel comfortable letting your DD walk in a similar situation at home? If yes, then there would be no difference at CSR. If no, go with your gut instinct. I'm one of those over protective dads so I don't let my DD out of my sight...even at 15.

Yes, I'd be comfortable with it. As a mother, I'd be more concerned at letting her go alone at night.

Yes, she does go out with friends but always driven by a parent. She won't be 16 for 4 months so she isn't driving yet. I'm probably a bit overprotective since she's an only child.

That's my case too. Only child = overprotective dad.

I've been walking around the resorts on my own since 13-14 and I'm still here :) I've never felt unsafe at any resorts, especially CSR. I feel like the ranchos are the most isolated part of the park so I'd suggest requesting the cabanas or casitas because they're well lit and populated :)

There is nothing wrong with being over protective! I am too :) But Im sure she'll be fine, but trust your gut. And only you know your child the best. When I was growing up, my mother and I took self defense classes together. It was a great bonding experience and I learned how to really kick butt when needed. :)

Very good suggestion. I definitely would not feel comfortable if she had to walk through a part of the resort not well lit and somewhat isolated. We live in a small plan in the suburbs outside of Pittsburgh and she doesn't really walk around by herself. Either she's with friends or with me!

My daughter and niece were 13 and 14 on our trip at Thanksgiving and they would stay in the parks after I left. The girls took the busses back to BWV by themselves. Of course, my daughter had been to WDW 11 or 12 times by then, so I felt comfortable that they knew their way around the resort.
