CSR Booked Solid in Mid-May?!

A friend of mine is taking her family to Disney May 10th thru May 16th, they were planning on staying at CSR, but called Monday to find out they are booked solid. Now my friend is worried it is going to be very busy in the parks.
I think CSR might be booked because I know they do alot of conventions, but does anyone know of anything going on around that time in May?

I called Disney myself too and was told the only available moderates are POR
and CBR. Would it do any good to keep calling and asking about CSR?

Also, my friend was just going to go ahead and book CBR to make sure they had a room, but the CSR she talked to told her if she cancelled (say if maybe CSR became available) she would NOT get a refund on her deposit. -- Now, I KNOW this isn't true, we aren't even into the 45 day window yet, she is still
more than 90 days out and isn't there a kind of reservation where you can cancel up to 3 days before you trip?

Sorry for all the questions....I'm getting a little fustrated trying to help plan this trip!

A room only ressie can be cancelled with no penalty if it is more than 5 days prior to arrival. Expedia shows availability of all room types at CBR, POR and POFQ. As far as CSR only Wed and Fri are sold out (no standard views on Wed, Fri or Sat though). If she really wants CSR she could split her stay.

That's odd, I just got CSR for Easter week, you would think you couldn't get it.

Middle of May is slow right before the summer rush, it has to be a big convention.

A couple of things....mother's day is the 14th, CSR is a convention resort, there is the flower and garden show....

We tried a month or more ago for the 2nd week in May and were told it was booked...no rooms at all. Perhaps a few conventions. We booked the following week. I just called to take days off the end of our trip and add to the beginning..the booked week..and got them fine. I did this on Wed I believe. We are staying in a standard room.

So my guess is that there is availability...just not for all the days. Also...if it's a room only ressie she can cancel anytime as long as it's more than 5 days from arrival. I've asked this a million times and have always gotten the same answer...well except for once or twice. Which means there are some people there that don't have all their facts. Perhaps she got one of those.

I too have gotten antsy wondering if May is going to be crazy...afterall look at the May code watch. Seems everyone on this site is going in May. But you have to remember...the size of dis in comparison to this site. And also..that CSR is a convention resort. And really...it's big..but there aren't THAT many rooms there. We are talking 10s of thousands.

I would say to keep calling...rooms open up all the time and people change dates like myself. And yes...if I were her I would book another resort if she is set on going regardless.

Are you trying to use a AAA discount? They only reserve a certain number of rooms for AAA. I've been told by my AAA agent that they are booked for May. I was trying to get my ressie moved from CSR to POFQ but was told that they were unable to because they were booked up in May.

I then tried to change to the CBR- but no preferred rooms and I am taking a small child. I just decided to take the chance of a good AP rate and book the Poly now. The CM stated May is very busy!!!

I just cross my fingers for a good AP rate!!

I was at csr in Jan..and it was really crowded with conventions..so the food court and pools were crowded and not very disney..no kids..I had them move us to cbr

If the other mods are available and CSR is not, it is most likely that there is a conference going on. Most of the conventioners don't bother with the parks, at least not during the daytime, so for the parks being crowded because CSR is sold-out, I wouldn't worry. May is actually a less-busy time to visit. The Easter breaks are over, spring breaks are over, and the summer vacations haven't yet gotten started.

That is so weird, my mother tried booking CSR for her upcoming trip at the end of March, and that time was also booked solid!

My guess is if you were looking for the end of May, you are running into the Memorial Day Weekend. May usually is not that busy of a month. It doesn't compare to President's Week, the two weeks surrounding Easter, summer (early June to mid August), Thanksgiving, or the Christmas/New Year's holidays. Yes, the Flower and Garden festival are going on, but that usually impacts the Epcot resorts.

I think it is probably booked because everyone in the world knows that we are coming all the way from England on the 10th!!

I have the same problem with the Contemporary in June before I switch to CSR for my conference. I had no problem getting my room at CSR with the group but NO rooms the week before at the Contemporary because of some insurance conference. May and June are prime conference time!!

Is Mother's Day really crazy? We booked OKW, and the woman from whom I bought points said, "oh, you're really lucky you'll miss the Mother's Day crowds!"; but she was wrong about her dates-- we'll be there the MD weekend! When I pointed it out to her, she backed off, and said it wouldn't be too bad...! Should we all be worried about mid-May, then? We'll be there the 13th-18th, and I'm taking my youngest (Ella, 17m) for the first time.
Just wondering if any of you have had bad experiences that weekend...?

We are plannning on a split stay CSR/BC starting May 20. I'm worried if I need to go ahead and book now. I have an AP but was waiting for codes. If I book now and a code comes out next month will they apply the discount?

They are booked on 5/26 for sure- I was needing 5/26-6/2. You may want to call and check. I was just a little surprised that it was booked since it is such a large resort and 5/26 is the Friday before Memorial weekend and it was available the rest of the weekend.

I just checked disneyworld.com and there was availability from the May 13-19 for a King or water view room at CSR.

The PDF Conference is at the Coronado on May 17th & 18th. That could be what's causing your problems. My husband might be going to that and we will have other family members joining us and need 3 rooms. I tried to get a package rate with dining through a couple of other sources and they said the CSR wasn't available either. I am going to call through an AAA agent today and see what they say, because we do want the dining package, if possible. Once we find out if he's going to the Conference for sure, if we still can't get rooms, we may have to see if we can get the extra rooms through them. If not, we may have to switch to Caribbean Beach. We hope not...we love CSR!!!!

They will release the un-booked conference rooms at some point, you should call and find out when. It's usually like 60 days out, but Disney might be different.
