Csn you really cancel the ticket portion too???

We're thinking about going to WDW for a couple days between Christmas and New Years. Just checked and resorts are pretty booked. I'm thinking I should make the reservation now before options are even more limited, and then cancel if we ultimately decide not to go (which we will decide before the nov cancel/change date). Since I would be getting the tickets as part of the hotel package, if we cancel, will that cancel the tickets as well?

On another note, if I'm planning to buy discounted gift cards to pay for the trip, is it worth opening a Disney savings account now? It has to be opened at least 4 months before the trip to get the $20 per $1,000 bonus, correct?

If you book a package that includes room and tickets, all of it is canceled.

I haven't done it, but I set up a vacation account today and saw that you can select "use Disney gift card" when adding funds, so yes, it can be done.

This is good info to have! Had I read the DVA page it says you can pay with a GC in the "how it works" section.

I'm buying gift cards from target with my redcard, saves 5%. Now that I know I can load them to here, that's going to be a free $100 GC once my vacation is saved for. So I will be saving $250 by buying the GC at target, then I will keep what I save for spending money while at disney, plus the $100 I will get from this...thats pretty much a free $350 the way I see it...

Yes! I did this (bought Disney gift cards with my Red Card, loaded to Disney vacation account) and just made my final payment last week. I paid for our entire trip this way. Every extra penny saved helps!

Another option is to buy discounted gift card packs (typically 5% off) at a wholesale club like Sam's club or BJs using a rewards credit card, which ultimately saves you anywhere from 6-10%.

Thanks! We'll be traveling before 12/31, so it makes sense for us this time. They haven't extended the $20 promo beyond that to my knowledge. As we plan to become DVC members in the next couple years, I'll probably continue to use the account for dues payments.

As for me, my final payment is due 12/27, as long as the trip is paid for before 12/31 you qualify

If you book room only, you can cancel and get your room deposit refunded up to 5 days prior to check in.
