We will be going during Free Dining, and I want to try some new places.

Any one ever been to Kona Island Sushi Bar, how was it? I read that this is considered a Counter Service on the Dining Plan. Is this true??

Also, Since we will be staying at the Contemporary Resort, has anyone eaten at the new Contempo Cafe? What was your experience?

Not sure about the sushi bar, but we've eaten at the Contempo Cafe several times and have always loved it. Always have to have the turkey BLT (or whatever it's called). :thumbsup2

I thought I read kona sushi bar was a ts credit planned on trying it in sept myself it sure would be nice if it was cs credit can anyone verify?

I can verify that it's a table service location, and it's open at 5:00pm, I believe. I know that people on the DIS have asked often enough what they do for the DDP, that I decided to ask the cast member when I ate there in October.

He said:

You can order from the Kona Cafe menu as if you're dining in the restaurant. Any entree or dessert. If you opt to get a specialty sushi roll from the sushi bar menu, it's considered your entree.

IMHO, it's better to buy the sushi out of pocket than use a dining credit on it. It's a better value to get entrees from the regular Kona Cafe menu if you eat there.

Ive eaten at the Contempo cafe a few times. thought the meals there were great :thumbsup2
I like the beef flatbread best, my husband loved the pasta.
Like you we stay at the Contemporary, so its easy for us. :goodvibes

Thanks BriarRose..We are definatley going to the sushi bar and I agree OOP would be best for the sushi!

I have been to both locations and I think they are both amazing. One great thing about the Contempo Cafe is that all their Salads are made fresh each time you order them, so they are not pre-made and kept inside a fridge all day like at other counter service locations. Finally at the Kona Island Sushi Bar I would highly recommend trying the Volcano Roll.

I didn't think that the Kona Island Sushi Bar was on the DDP. I know Knoa is but I thought I read that the sushi bar was not.

The Kona Island Sushi Bar is not on the Disney Dining Plan.

Yet when I asked them specifically in October if they take the dining plan, they outlined that they did accept the credits, in the way I outlined a few posts ago. I fielded the question because there was ambiguity about this. The answer is yes, they do accept the DDP.
