Just returned from the fort. A notice was placed at the comfort stations informing us that Trails End Take out would only be available after 5 pm starting on April 9. The reason being that a counter service dining option was available at Meadow Snack Bar from 11 am to 5 pm. They had a menu posted. They will have different sandwiches like tuna, club and pulled pork. Different appitizers, and snack like items such as fruit, and whatnot. Also drinks and ice cream. I forgot to take a picture of the menu and they didn't have one aviailable for me to take when I checked out. Sorry!! Hopefullly someone will have more info than me. But it is good to see that a CS dining is an option for now.

Awesome, thanks for posting this. I look forward to grabbing some ice cream from there for my birthday. ;)

I have never had whatnot:confused3.....does it taste like chicken?:rotfl:

If its at Disney...Im sure it tastes like cardboard!

They better have a cheese burger. Sound interesting keep us up to date.:)

Didn't see any burgers listed on the menu. Maybe after it has been openend for a little while they will tweek the menu and add more items. Also it needs tostay open later than just 5 pm.

IMHO

This is a poor excuse of a CS option. NO HAMBURGERS? But there gonna have tuna? WOW, that doesn't seem smart to me.

Also, Does anyone remember what happened the last time they had a small counter service at the pool. NO one used it and they closed it most of the time.

BECAUSE, most people eat at the parks between 11 and 5. They need to open a TRUE counter service area, and leave it open past 5 pm. That's when most people would use it. At night, when they return from the parks.

I saw the menu as well.....some of the items they offer: hot dogs, salads, wraps, BBQ pork flatbread, chicken sandwiches etc......It is better than what they use to offer over t here. When I saw the sign it seemed to imply that this would be their new "quick service" area at the fort. The date it opend is April 9th. Sooooo....I guess the pool will also be up and running by then.

Does anyone know if the menu at the Meadows Quick service from 11am to 5pm and the menu at TE takeout (after 5pm) will be the same menu?

If so, that might not be so bad.

Oh wow! That means the pool will be opening during our stay. We arrive on the 5th of April. Exciting.

Yay! Now I can have a big sandwich and cramp and sink in the new pool! Just kidding, I'm excited about the new CS and as other posters have mentioned, hopefully they will extend the hours.

Here are some photos of the notices that have been mentioned, as well as the new menu:

Notice that they are now apparently going to serve hard liquor at the pool. But only between 11 and 5. Weather permitting. Whoop-dee-doo! There are no prices on the menu! Check out the southern smothered hot dog. With pulled pork and cole slaw????

TCD - Thank you for posting the pictures!!! As usual, they are great.

I don't know whose making these decisions, but OBVIOUSLY, they are not listening to the guest's suggestions. I haven't read one post that requested TUNA SALAD.

I am very disappointed in this decision. MOST of the complaints that I have read, and heard in person have centered around the lack of selection on the Take-out menu. And they add Tuna salad and not Hamburgers? Also, they are only open from 11am to 5pm. Isn't the pool area busiest at night?

I bet that this new Meadow snack bar will become seasonal almost immediately, due to lack of sales, just like the last one did.

Are they leaving the Trails end (nighttime) takeout as-is? Chicken and Pizza? If they think that giving a limited takeout selection will force people to go to the Trails End buffet more often, they are wrong.

I'll just bring more of my own food and eat less of theirs now.

Sorry for the rant!!

John- No need to apologize for the rant. The "expanded" menu for the Meadow Snack Bar is a huge disappointment for me too. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't remember a single time when I craved a tuna sandwich while sitting out by the pool on a hot summer day- ditto for a BBQ pork sandwich (gag).

And, there a pre-made sandwiches (which these undoubtedly will be) already for sale at the Meadow Trading Post, just over the bridge.

The thing that we apparently are supposed to be excited about is that we can use our Disney Dining Plan credits at the Meadow Snack Bar. I, for one, don't care. I know a few campers use the DDP, but I would venture to say most don't. The problem with the DDP, for those not using it, is that WDW puts several of the cheapest items that it can get with on the menus at its restaurants, to give the guest the illusion that he is getting some type of great deal. In the meantime, those who are looking for a decent meal at a fair price are out of luck.

And, I really wonder how this is all going to work. What if I want a plain hot dog (hold the pork and slaw, please)? Can I get that? What if I want an adult beverage other than those listed. Is there going to be a bar here, or are these pre-made deals? If WDW really wanted to make some money at this venue, it would be easy to do (put in a grill and serve hot-dogs, hamburgers, BBQ chicken, shakes, fries, etc., and add an honest to goodness bar that is open to 11 pm or midnight). But, it seems like knuckleheads are running the place.

Oh well, in the long run, this will save me money, as we will most assuredly continue to eat most of our meals back at the site.

Ugh. Premade, warmed up and/or microwaved stuff would be just awful. The one thing that's nice about QS locations like at WL and the Poly, is that at least everything is put together fresh and isn't sitting wrapped in a cooler or under a heat lamp.

Bleeeeeech. Definitely won't further the cause of making an honest go of QS dining at the Fort. :sad2:
