OK, my parents have just started this new diet called Medifast or something like that. Basically, they drink these liquid meals 5 times a day and then have one meal with like 6 oz. lean protein and 3 cups of veggies or something.

Thankfully, the good part is we only have one reservation, a breakfast at Crystal Palace.

I am thinking that they either have to pay for the buffet, or they can't come at all, correct?

You know, I really don't know.

You might want to check on the disABILITIES board ~ someone there may be able to answer your question.

I'm pretty sure they have to pay if they sit.

I think some people with gastric bypass have gotten them to charge the child's rate. But some have gone and shown a card from their doctor and talked to everyone and they were still charged the full rate.

It looks like Medifast is a commercial diet, like Slimfast, not a dietary restriction like an allergy so I guess ADA doesn't come into play. Also I don't think the ADA would come into play anyway when it comes to having to pay or not.

Remember you are also paying for the character interaction.

they will pay. The only people I've ever read that did not have to pay were Make a Wish kids on the tube-feeding (so they really cannot eat any solid food at all...just the specially prepared liquid.)

There was a similar post to this yesterday regarding Chef Mickey. The consensus was that everyone at the table had to pay, regardless of whether they ate or not. Part of it is that you're paying for the character experience. The other part, I'm sure, is that you're taking a seat from a paying customer if you're NOT paying...and ADRs can be hard to come by. And, finally, I'm sure that they have no real way to monitor whether one is really not eating.

When do you go? Maybe it's far enough out that they won't be on Medifast any longer? I've been on Medifast. Not only is it not sustainable for more than 5 or 6 months at most, I would *NEVER* recommend it to ANYONE!!! Sure, you lose the weight, but truly the second you start putting real food in your mouth again - regardless of how structured the quantities - it comes back practically overnight.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Unless it's changed over the years, Medifast is doctor-regulated. You can't just go out and buy it over the counter like Slimfast; you have to go through a doctor who regulates your healthy while you use it and then allows or disallows you from purchasing more.

Of course, it's been a long time since I was on it so it may have changed.

This is what I found.

To me it looks like any other meal replacement/meal delivery service. It fact I found a review of it and they did compare it in one way with Slimfast.
