I'm not sure this is true. And even if it is, I think it may well also be true that diners don't eat as much at character buffets as they do at non-character buffets. I think the characters are a distraction to eating...and I really think most people at a character meal get a strong urge to leave once they've seen all the characters. Our last meal at CP, it was literally like the characters were in a race to see how fast they could cover the room. More than half the meal, the characters weren't out and about. They did the little dance they used to do, and didn't even circle the room once! They used to dance around more than once (I'm fairly certain.)
The first character meal we ever had, the characters actually interacted with guests. The food at LTT wasn't eh best, but it was okay.
Now on my more recent trip to CM, the characters actually took time to interact with us - we dined very early - but the food was the pits! It was one of the worst meals I've ever had at WDW. IT was all cheap starch - like pasta salad and the orange mac and cheese. The carved beef was still there, but it was nearly inedible.
As for CP changing Pooh...I think I'd be okay with that. I think it's time for a change. I'd love to see different characters there, or even no characters if the food was really good. CP is such a pretty facility; the food there should match.
