Crystal Light

I love them, and actually keep some in my purse to put in water in restaurants, always have several in my fanny pack at DW. I love the lemonade flavored ones.............as far as being bad for you EVERYTHING is if you overdue it. The raspberry ones are good too. I didn't care to much for the cheaper versions. I put several in a snack size zip loc to carry around. It's a good alternative to plain water.

For me, it mimicks the symptoms of MS and no way will I let my kids have it because of that.

Aspertame does the same thing to me!! I went thru a bunch of tests thinking I had MS!! Someone suggested that I cut out diet pop and it took a while to get it all out of my system, but the symptoms disappeared!! I have heard the same thing from a few other people. It was so scary and for the longest time I thought I was going crazy with the weird symptoms and no obvious cause.

However, I will not get in people's faces if they drink it. It obviously doesn't have the same effect on everyone and a lot of it has to do with amount of consumption. I will drink an occasional diet pop and be fine. If I want diet pop on a regular basis I drink Diet Rite bcuz it's caffeine and aspertame free. :) What many don't realize though is aspertame is also found in some yougurts, cookies and more! It's not just diet drinks.

And, one more thing. I was watching Dr. Know on tv the other night and they proved that when aspertame mixes with something in our stomachs it turns into formaldahyde (sp?). In small doese they said it's not dangerous and won't cause any side effects, but when consumed in larger amounts people will notice side effects - I am guessing that's where my MS symptoms came from - I drank lots of Diet Coke. :\

Anyway, there's just a little info for everyone that I found interesting.

Because lately that has been how it has been on here. I almost didn't respond to this thread because I knew it was going to turn into the horrors of aspartame. I've been drinking it for over 20 years with no reactions...kids have been drinking it with no reactions. If you do have reactions to artificial sweeteners and coloring then yes, you should stay away from it. I would never tell someone that they should drink it if it bothers them, but I also would never tell someone they were poisoning their kids if they let them drink it. Not everyone reacts badly to it.

Well said!!!!

On my bottles of Crystal Light aspertame is not listed as an ingredient, but it is on my little 'to go' packets - never realized that before!!

STOP the bickering! GEEZE! The OP asked about Crystal Light and if it was a diet drink and if it was any good. WHY does it have to become a debate about aspertame and McDonalds? Do you people not have enough to do in your actual lives that you must drag a post off topic and start fighting

The OP also asked if it is safe. There is plenty of evidence out there that proves it is not safe.

I personally took the OP asking if it was a *diet drink* like a fad diet since it appeared they had never heard of Crystal Light before. The OP found it acceptable that it was like sugar free Kool-Aid (which contains aspertame too).

Cancer in rats was caused by more aspertame than anyone would ever consume in their lifetime. Find me some totally unbiased sites and maybe I'll re-consider what I have been told by many oncologists (yes, I know many, my mother is an oncology RN who has uses aspertame forever and splenda with no adverse effects).

If aspertame was as bad as all those sites make it out to be do you really think the goverment would allow it to be sold? Or perhaps the government is in the pockets of the artificial sweetner industry and no longer the sugar industry.

Now, I can't stand the stuff anymore. I grew up on diet soda and dumped sweet n low into my ice tea for as long as I can remember. But as soon as I got on allergy medication I could taste the after-taste and that was it for me.

The pre-mixed bottles of Crystal Light use Spenda, but their powder mix uses aspertame.

Personally I like it but I won't give it to my daughter....her Dr makes a big thing about never giving diet anything to kids under 12 as it has some effect on their brain development....I figure my brain is as developed as its goign to get so what the heck for myself LOL...

Well that explains my kids! :teeth: :teeth:

I'm the only one that drinks Crystal Light. I buy the Ice Tea from Costco and dillute it with tons of water to give the water flavor without tasting sweet.

It's good.

We picked up the new Kool Aid packets at Target today. They were $6.50 for three boxes and each box has 22 packets. They had Fruit Punch and Cherry. They are made with regular sugar. DD tried one out and said it tasted great and mixed easy.
