We were going to go to Disneyland in spring and we were all ready to book it. Since we were going with other little kids we thought the Disneyland Hotel was perfect and i mean the kids were like 3 and 7. I heard that the grand hotel was great for adults but the Disneyland Hotel was great for the younger ones. So here we are ready to book it and my dad walks in a says no i am not going to that hotel and now all the other hotels are booked and he does not want to go anymore :( i am so upset but my mom says we will work it out

Is the Disneyland Hotel really that bad i did not think it was? It looked fun to me. Please respond back telling me if the Disneyland Hotel is horrible.

Thanks,

-just one week in disney would change my life, lol.

We didn't stay there -- but checked it out on our visit last week. The outside is very dated (I don't know what they could do for that....but the inside is beautiful. The courtyards, topiaries and pool areas are great. I think our kids would like to stay there when it is warm for the great pool (GC's was kinda of bland!)

We have stayed there, and we love it there! I definitely say that it would be the best one for kids because of the theming!! I always debate between the two (Grand Californian or the Disneyland hotel) and we go with the Grand because it is closer, but I always have second thoughts because of the kids. It is always a toss up for me!! :teeth:

Where else do you stay and have Tinkerbell "light up the night?" At check-in, we always go into the room and open the curtains to charge the border with light. The features of the the Mickey fixtures and the map on the entertainment cabinet make this a very special place. Add to it the gardens, topiaries, Goofy hiding around the resort and you have a very Disneyfied resort. :cool1:

I think you need to gently find out why he feels that way, then maybe we can help you address his specific concerns.

And by the way, if it DOES work out, don't give up on trying to book rooms. Last week, I kept trying and trying to book a stay at one of the three resorts and the computer kept saying that there was nothing available for those nights. Then, I picked up the phone and called. If I did a "room only" ressie, there were no rooms available, if I did a "room and tickets" ressie all three hotels had availability!

Don't give up!

My family loves both the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier. We really want to try the Grand Californian too.
For younger kids, the Tinkerbell wallpaper boarder (glows in the dark) and the sketches of Disneyland on the head boards, and the topiary disney bathroom wall paper, and the light fixtures of Mickey's hands holding the sconce was all so great! Not too over done, but certainly made the kids happy! The big draw was the Peter Pan themed pool that we could see lit up at night! We even left gifts from "Tinker Bell" in the room while the kids were down in the pool. They really loved the magic of it all!
Now it is very cool to see the Califonia Adventure park from the Paradise Pier hotel too! Very pretty and it has a waterslide. You have access to the Peter Pan pool too I believe.

Find out exactly what your Dad is worried about. I had a friend who actually was worried the hotel would be too Disney and not a relaxing atmosphere and she was very impressed with the style and charm and good taste of it all! I agree that if you want any of the Resort Hotels, just keep calling. There are cancellations all the time. I have been on the phone with the Hotel and had them say no...then OH WAIT one just opened up! Give it a try! Here is some pixie dust for you and I hope it all works out soon! :wizard:

Personally...."too Disney" isn't really part of MY vocabulary. LOL :lmao:

I have stayed at both DLH and PP (when it was the PAC). If he's going to Disney, the hotel's decor should not bother him. Perhaps it is the price? The first time I stayed at DLH we got a package from an outside travel agent. We were 4 adults who worked together, but split the room - the package included a car rental and our air fare from Phila (we did not need tickets). I cost me about $700 (back in 1999). You might want to try going thru an agent as well as WD Travel. While I have only stayed on property while visiting there, I am sure teh off site hotels are just as grand.

PS: When I spent one night there back in 2002, I spent $170 for one night at DLH - at that was at a discount. It can get a bit pricey, but it was worth it for my two cousins who had never stayed there (two teens).

Good luck!

We have stayed there 2x, most recently Nov 05. We loved DLH both times! This last trip we had a suite and it was awesome! We could see DL from the balcony (fireworks!) and were right above the waterfalls at the hotel. There are 3 restaurants at the hotel and you walk past all of the places in DTD on your way to the parks (plus you are close to the monorail station).

Has your dad seen pictures of it? I know there are some out there on the web. Maybe that would help.

Good luck with your trip planning!

When was the last time he saw the hotel? If it was more than 7 years ago, I would be chiming in with him. However, they have really spiffy'd up the place. Maybe he just has his heart set on the GCH and wants to save money for that.

I hope you can tell all these replies to yhour dad and convince him! ;)

I lived near Disneyland until I was 39 and stay at the Disneyland Hotels when I come back to visit. I have stayed in all 3 and I like them all. I am not sure why your dad does not want to stay there, but it is fun to be right at the entrance of the Downtown Disney! If you stay at the Paradise Pier, then you have your own entrance to the California Adventure!

Also, have been to all the character breakfast 'shows' and Goofy's Kitchen, at the DL hotel was the best.

Good luck! I would stay there again!

There are plenty of hotels in the Anaheim area - even during spring break. You don't HAVE to stay at one of the 3 "official" Disneyland hotels. As a parent who has taken my family to WDW and Disneyland, I wouldn't stay at the Disneyland Hotel unless it was paid for with someone else's money!

I have stayed at Dinseyland Hotel several time and loved each and every time I stayed. I also had one grumpy husband that hated gong didnt want to stay. He just didnt want to go. So when I called the hotel and got ressie I spoke to Diane. Oh my she had the answers. My husband loves golf she gave me the phone numbers to the golf course. Husband love to swim she she told me that she was so sure that he would love staying at the Disneyland Hotel that she would go to the pool and put his name on a chair there just for him. Husband felt so bad he went and did not say a word and loved every bit of it. The hotel is great everthing is right there. You dont even have to think they have it there for you. I feel that they go out of there way to make you feel good about your stay. pixiedust: I honestly will not go to any other hotel.
