crying, budget busted big time, plumbing

we have had to have the plumber out 3 x in the past two weeks, this week it is our regular plumber and rotorooter. They can not figure out what is blocking the line so they have to run a camera down. I am so sad, any and all the money I had extra is going to literally go down the drain.

Neighbors had to have the camera thing done too. Their basement kept flooding. However, I believe they never found anything either. The neighbors problem was that when they started to build a new sub division kind of behind where are homes are located. They put drainage tiles in to move the water around, and unfortunately for my neighbors, they were in a low spot. Their basement was dry for 5 years, then all of sudden had problems the spring after the new homes were going in, it was a heavy rain, and well we moved in the house that weekend. So, i recall there first flooding.

So, they ended up with 2 sump pump pits, and 3 lines hauling water out of the basement, with 3 pumps, and a back-up one too. This was after they dug up around their basement, and recemented to try to prevent the leaks around the foundation.
There sump pump, even when it hasn't rained for a few days, is always running. Like every 30 seconds it turns on. Its been running non stop recently with all the snow melting and rain we have had.

my husband was a plumber for the first 10 1/2 yrs of our marraige and you know what, not once did we have an issue other than DD flushing toothbrush after toothbrush. UGH.
I guess I need to laugh or I will cry again.

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. Doesn't it just ruin your day (or week, or month?!). You can't ignore it and just hope the problem will go away so you have to just keep on putting $$$$ into it.

We just had major leaking in our basement family room - a room in which we have NEVER had water problems and a room which we have been remodeling for the past two years - any time we could put some money into it. There go our beautiful wood floors that I waited so long to have. I wanted to cry while my husband ripped up the whole floor.

Call your local town water/sewer department. We had the same problem and it turned out to be tree roots in the town's part of the pipe. They paid for the camera and also to fix the lines since it was in the lines near the road and not considered to be our responsibility.

If there is water pooling up in the back yard, that has to be corrected first. Water ejected by the sump pump must not be discharged close to the house where it can seep back in.

Provided you catch it soon enough, you can complain or even file suit against someone who lets water, even rainfall, drain from their land onto yours that did not happen before.

A basement sump (sump pump pit) usually has one or more drain tile pipes dumping into it. The pump should be set to come on when the water rises just a little above the bottom edge of the lowest drain tile pipe.
