Hi folks!

I have a question for those who use canes or crutches to get around - are you allowed to take them into lines for rides and whatnot, or do you need a GAC card to keep them with you?

Thanks!

I use a forearm crutch and have always been allowed to take it on most rides. I think that there may be a few where that wouldn't work, but I can't ride the extra fast or bumpy ones, so I haven't run into a problem!

GAC
You will need the GAC to let CMs know what limitations you have such as "no stairs". The GAC is a tool mad of cardstock that CMs use to see who has a hidden disability and will need special services such as the disabled line which has no ramps or in Toy Story Mania the ride car is pulled into its own bay where guests can board at their pace. Good trip planning and fast passes are often faster than the GAC. Only so many disabled cars are available at Toy Story Mania and some rides only allow one disabled car per cycle or time limit.

You are allowed to take canes and crutches on rides where the item will not fly out of the vehicle. If your cane or crutches cannot go on a ride like a roller coaster or Tower of Terror then the CM will take the cane or crutches and put them aside to wait until you return. Usually the same CM will be there and will recognize you. If not then tell the CM you need your cane or crutches.

Using a cane or crutches will alert the CM that there is a disability and normally there should be no need for the GAC. Thbe purpose of the GAC is to alert CMs when there is an "invisble" disability.

::yes::
Agreeing with Cheshire Figment.
There is usually a greeter at the attraction. Tell/show that CM that you have a cane or crutches and need to avoid stairs. That CM will usually direct you where to go.

Thanks for the replies! My FIL is joining us on a trip in February, and needs to use a cane to walk. I just wanted to make sure we did things correctly for his enjoyment.

Again, thanks!
