Any other moms thinking about this? How to wash? Disinfect? We use insulated ones for milk and take n toss for water. Any tips???? Son is only 23 months so can work the open cups yet. Will the nursery clean if drinks all of it?? How is the nursery doing on the fantasy? We are cruising this sat and can't wait but I can't stop thinking about tsa, liquids, ship, no dishwashers and sippy cups.... Hahaha

The nursery on the Fantasy was wonderful! you can rent a bottle/sippy cup sanitizer machine from the guest services. it is a $50 deposit to your stateroom that is credited back when you return the machine, so no cost. we used it for our 1 yr old, and his regular sippy cup and also even sanitized his take n toss with no problem. just rinse or wash out as best you can in the sink and then use the machine. no problems.

the nursery would offer his cup, but I don't think they wash anything.

I think you might be overthinking this a bit. Just bring a small bottle of dishwashing liquid - decant it into a small shampoo bottle and put it in your checked luggage. Wash the cups in your bathroom sink in your cabin.

Your child is almost 2 years old, and you didn't mention any sort of auto-immune diseases that would preclude needing everything sterilised. Just wash the cups as needed. If he doesn't finish a drink while at the nursery, I'm sure you could ask them to rinse the cup out and you can wash it when you get back to your room. Send a spare clean one if you want there to be a fresh cup available for a second drink.

I think an infant bottle steriliser is overkill for a toddler. I'm a firm believer of building kids' immune systems up so that they develop the ability to fight off everyday bugs. A non-sterile sippy cup is fine at this age.

Your son is going to love the nursery, and I hope you have a fantastic cruise!

We went on the Wonder when my son was 23 months old. We just brought some dish washing soap with us and I rinsed the cup out at night. I wasn't steralizing anything for him at that point. Honestly he drank from the disposable cups with the straws from the drink station most of the time.

We cruised with our daughter at 3 months and 8 months, so still the bottle stage. I didn't know bottle sterilizers were available and just brought a bottle brush, a bottle of dishwashing liquid, and a little collapsible drying rack. No biggie.

I always take a small bottle of dishwashing detergent and a bottle brush. The water in the bathroom sinks gets plenty hot to wash out bottles and cups, IMHO.

You'll be fine traveling through security with the milk and sippy cups. I'd limit the amount of liquid-y snacks you take through (yogurt, applesauce, etc) but if you need a cup of milk to get through the morning you'll be able to take it through security with you.

Of course, I usually just buy on the other side because it's easier.

We last cruised with our ds at 23 months as well and did the same thing...little bottle of dish detergent and washed in the bathroom sink. he survived just fine! :) We lived in Hawaii for three years (ds was 7 months to 3.5 yrs) and we travelling around islands quite a bit with bottles and sippy cups and I did this every time we flew to another island...small bottle of detergent in my suitcase (and then in a Ziploc just in case!) and washed things out at night. never let milk, etc sit around in there!

In addition to dish soap in the stateroom, I took the breast pump cleaning sheets I had leftover for "on the go" cleaning. It really wasn't that bad overall.

Will he drink out of a straw cup? You could always just use the disposable ones too for the week. There are lids so spills will be minimal.

Yeah, that's a good point. Our daughter was just under 14 months on our last trip to WDW, and thanks to our repeatedly forgetting to take her sippy cup to the parks, she learned how to drink from a straw. I'm sure you could teach your son quickly.

Yes, use a travel shampoo bottle for dishwashing soap. You can even do Anti-bac if you prefer. I found that there isn't much counter space for drying things in the room, but bring one of those mesh bags used for washing lingerie and you can put stuff in there and hang it to dry without fear of the recently washed cup getting knocked onto the floor.

Here is what I have learned the hard way from TSA....if you have an icepack in the bag with your yogurt, etc, it needs to be frozen solid when they inspect it. I took one with us on a trip and it was OK when we flew out. But, then, our hotel did not have a way for me to re-freeze it so I took it back through just cold, not frozen, and they took it away because it had become a "gel" by that point. So, you either find a way to refreeze it, plan to put it in your checked bag on the way back, or don't take one at all.

We cruised with DD at 24 months, and we completly forgot all sippy cups. We found that the disposable coffee cups with lids worked just as well. We just didn't fill them up all the way, and the servers were really good about not filling them up either. We also worked with straws when we could because she can handle a straw.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
